“So, really, really good, but not excellent...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2015

The Gothic is located in a beautiful old historic corner building right in the middle of the little lovely seaside village of Belfast, Maine. It has big windows that flood the space with light and a beautiful small bar and lovely staff.
The food is all vegetarian, artistically prepared and plated beautifully on small plates. The specialty cocktails are creative and lovingly prepared, the wine list is small, but wonderful and interesting as are the other spirit and beer choices.
All the food choices are tasty and interesting as well as very fresh...prepared as you order and come in the order that you request....but be advised that this is not a dinner venue, this is an after work, or late afternoon, or early evening, or after dinner venue to have a cocktail with a small plate or two to share and/or a beer/wine and small plate or two to share and then if you haven't had a meal you venture out to many of the other wonderful options on the street for a meal. The beautiful plated small dishes are all wonderful, but small is the operative word here. We left the Gothic to go to another venue across the street for big juicy veggie burgers after eating at The Gothic! It does not satisfy completely and quite frankly some of the plates of beautiful food were smaller than small. The pricing is just a bit high for the quantity that is presented on small plates. So, in summary, great location, great meeting place, great small plates of interesting creative vegetarian choices, great drinks, but will not satisfy your dinner hunger. Give it a try, have a drink and try their tasty small plates, but also take a short walk down the street to fulfill any hunger cravings you may have after eating at The Gothic.

“Honest opinion from a vegetarian couple”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2015

Had dinner at The Gothic last night and was greeted by lovely hostess/waitress. She proceeded to describe the menu items in detail, all of which sounded delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our selections. We would certainly recommend it .

“Exceptional Vegetarian Fare”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2015

Five of us went to Sunday brunch at The Gothic. Only one in the party is a vegetarian. Everyone was pleased with their meal, enjoyed the ambience and felt well served. The appetizers, salads and entrees were all well prepared and flavorful. The drinks were exceptional . We will definitely return to savor dinner and will likely bring guests to experience this unique dining option.

Recommended for people looking for finely prepared, locally sourced vegetarian fare and for carnivores looking for a break from meat. I would not recommend this restaurant for people who are interested in standard American fare served in oversized portions.

“The Gothic in Belfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2014

Loved Belfast, loved the food at the Gothic, loved the old building the Gothic is in. The service at the Gothic was just weird: didn't get the orders correct, kept bringing the wrong drinks, and were very slow in bringing meals. However, this was one of my favorite dining experiences in a long time The food (vegetarian and local) was creative and delicious and the ambience was warm and friendly. The food was pricey and some might think the portions were small. But I thought it was worth it and would love to go back the next time I visit Belfast.

“Good Food, Tiny Portions”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2014

I've eaten here twice -- once last year when it was fabulous and again, last week when it wasn't. The restaurant has gone vegeterian in the interim, which is fine. The food itself was quite good. However, the portion size of my main dish wouldn't have filled up a 3-year old. I had the pasta with artichokes and mushrooms. Unfortunately, they were out of artichokes, so the waitress (who was excellent), said the chef would add more mushrooms. Ha! If there were 3 mushrooms in my bowl, it was a lot. There were maybe, 5 longish strands of pasta. I did a double take when the waitress first put the bowl the pasta was served in, in front of me. If it weren't for the kale salad (delicious, by the way), I had ordered for a starter, I would have walked out beyond hungry, given the prices they charge. They can do better than this, and they should. Until then, I'd stay away. Great atmosphere in an old bank -- this place has possibilities!
