“Noisy & cramped camping”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2011

If you want a peaceful camping experience without other tents 15 feet from yours, go elsewhere. Bathrooms were clean but the campsite is way too noisy and cramped.

We love Acadia National Park and have camped there many times in the last 20 years.
Our first impressions of the office on arrival were disbelief at the untidy and dilapidated appearance. Our reservation dates were incorrect although we had made 3 long distance calls to reserve and correct their confirmation email. The restrooms had not even been swept out since the previous year and the walls and floors are filthy. After 3 requests the floors were cleaned up a little but the floors, showers and walls badly need scrubbing with cleaners and walls need painting. Most campsites for RV were very uneven and it was difficult to level the rig. Our friends in a motorhome had to change sites. Grass was very long. It was very quiet time as it was near the beginning of the season. Wi-fi was good at the campsite. On inspecting 2 other campgrounds nearby, they had much better and cleaner facilities. We would have moved but would not have got refunded. I know Acadia prices are higher but the price for this low season stay was almost double that which we had paid in Bangor, the previous few nights. I cannot recommend this poorly run, ill-kept campground and sadly will not be back!

We spent 3 nights at Bass Harbor Campground. We had to leave early due to a family emergency and the staff were very supportive and offered a raincheck for the unused nights. Bathrooms & Showers are very clean and well maintained. We stayed at site 206 and it was a little tight, but workable. Some sites are extremely close and if you get a noisy neighbor it can cause some sleepless nights. Store a little junky but down home Maine-like. Excellent location and a short ride to several nice hikes, Southwest Harbor, grocery store and a few gift shops in SW Harbor.

We were at Bass Harbor Campground the first week in August and stayed in cabin 7 which was newly built. The cabin was a wonderful alternative to tenting. The cabin was furnished with a microwave, refrigerator, gas grill and a coffee pot. Running water was available just outside the cabin door. The campground was quiet and well maintained. I would recommend the campground to anyone.

This is our 5th year going to Bass Harbor Campground. We went later this season - so the campground was not as busy as past years. The facilities are clean, the staff friendly and helpful. I read that others had problems with noise - not when we were there! This is a very nice place to camp.

A very nice campground, well located near Bass Harbor lighthouse and a short drive from many key sites in Acadia Natl. Park. The main problem with the campsites (C section) is that many of them are crowded quite closely together. There is not much privacy and there are invariably loud neighbours (we stayed one week) who talk and play music all evening. That's not my idea of a nature experience; why go camping if you want to party and listen to the radio?! Owners are nice and the place is clean, but the campground map is quite misleading as to the privacy of the individual sites, and they could be more attentive to the problem of noisy campers.

We were unlucky. This campground was recommended as being on the quiet side of the island. The sites are close together and it was anything but quiet. We didn't sleep either night we stayed there. Although the location is amazing and the facilities fairly clean, the staff does not enforce the hours advertised as quiet time to respect neighbors. I suppose if you want to party untethered, you could go there. We loved the area, but would never go back to the campground. Try Seawall, part of Acadia instead.
