I'll start with the good parts - the fixtures worked, the bathroom was clean, the linens were clean and we had no trouble getting a room. Oh and the TV worked. And so did the elevator. And we did have cereal and bagels for breakfast. The problems? It is an old, rundown, smelly fleabag of a hotel with furniture that has been knocked around since about 1950, smelly carpets in the hall, broken hall furniture, stained carpets in the room. And the WiFi doesn't work if you are at the end of the hall. The price was good, I'll agree with that, but the mattress was horrible - the thin kind with no box springs that means that you roll into the center of the bed all night. If you can sleep anywhere on anything, then I suppose this hotel is for you. Yes, it is right downtown, but we walked around to find that many of the restaurants were closing by 6pm. We found a couple that were open, but the "night life" was a bit pitiful. And then there is the issue of the construction. The city is working on Broad Street - at the front of the hotel. You can't see the hotel name from the street. Construction work begins at about 6AM. But I digress. We were standing in the back of the hotel and couldn't figure out how to get in - so we called the front desk and the clerk had to come let us in the BACK DOOR. And we had to leave via the same door. Trust me, you don't want to go in that way. It means an extra flight of stairs with suitcases. You can't drive up next to the front door. Ridiculous. If you are used to staying in reasonable hotels, do not be fooled by the 3 and 4 star reviews. They lie. The place needs to be completely renovated. It is not presentable, it is not up to the standards of even a poor Days Inn (or any comparable establishment). I found all of the info on the internet about this place to be false advertising. Stay elsewhere and drive into the downtown area - there is a new parking deck near the Charles Inn. Just park there.
