“Terrible”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2013

This is THE worst hotel I've ever had the misfortune to stay in. I wish I'd read the tripadvisor reviews before booking. I'm currently sat in my room taking advantage of the free wifi (about the only perk of the place) to write the review.

The receptionist was friendly enough but was scruffy and wearing a t-shirt which looked as if it had several weeks' worth of dinner spilt down it. The various signs around reception reminding me not to bring back prostitues or use the rooms for drug taking, and telling me that I couldn't check in without ID proving I was over 21 was also a bit of a turn off, as was the sight of tomorrow morning's breakfast bar.

Then we get to the room. It was described as "non smoking" and even has a sign to this effect on the door. However, the room absolutely stinks of smoke. It has permeated the curtains, the carpets and the bedsheets (which look as though they could do with a wash - they've clearly been on the bed a while and seen several customers!!). The bathroom is dirty with a dodgy light. Most of the plug sockets don't work and the one that does fires off a lot of sparks when you try to use it. The TV doesn't work. The plumbing gurgles noisily whenever anyone in the building so much as turns a tap on.

Worst of all, the walls are paper thin. I can hear everything that's being said (and done) in all the other rooms, in alarmingly graphic detail.

This motel is just dirty, the hallways, the rooms, the lobby, it all smells like dirty feet. I assumed the dust bunnies took the cleaning fairy hostage....what a awful place!

Stayed July 27/13 overnight. Second floor, clean room, no smell, great breakfast. Everything worked .... The tv wasn't great but we were tired from shopping so slept well. Would stay again but as a place to rest and go.

Room Tip: Second floor near far end.

While the rooms were clean and fairly spacious, there were a number of problems that caused us moderate to serious inconvenience, and the manager refused to believe or accommodate us on any of them.

For one, the phone didn't work, and the manager didn't explain until the next day that it was a local power outage. At any rate, we had to get back in the car, after a nine-hour car trip from Canada, and drive to a nearby eatery rather than being able to order pizza from the Dominos flyer in our rooms.

The wi-fi was so intermittent that I couldn't maintain a connection in order to do the online work that I had promised a client. He had a hard deadline, and I had promised him that I would get the work done during my stay in Bangor, so instead of starting our vacation activities the next morning, we again had to drive to a local cafe that had a reliable wireless connection. This was not how we had planned to spend the first full day of our time in the U.S.

Breakfast was more or less inedible, even by the standards of "continental breakfasts" at cheap U.S. motels. The "orange juice" advertised as such on the container was actually Tang, and was undrinkable. (I believe it is illegal to sell Tang as orange juice.) The apple juice was so heavily sweetened that it also was undrinkable. There were no options for breakfast that wouldn't put the average person into a diabetic coma.

We had two rooms (for the four of us), and in BOTH bathrooms the bath plug was broken, so the water would not stay in the bathtubs and none of us could take a bath. Showers are all fine and well, but a) all four of us are bath people, and b) a motel bathroom should have functioning bath plugs. I am sure we were not the first people to report this--in TWO rooms, no less!--but the manager denied that they were broken and refused to give us any sort of discount for what we felt were several failures to deliver the promised or reasonably expected services.

The next two nights, we stayed at two motels that cost less than this one and had a MUCH better experience. So I would recommend staying away from the Bangor Travelodge.

We stayed at this hotel on July 15th, what a mistake. Tried to save money so we would have it for shopping, well, that was a mistake.
It's dated, DIRTY, both in the room and in the corridors and stairwells.
We were so upset we didn't even go to continental breakfast because it didn't look like any place you would want to eat at.
We have stayed in a lot of hotels and motels in the Bangor area over the years. This was the first and last time at this place.
Even the person checking us in looked like someone who ran in off the street in the extreme heat, her air was long, dirty and in her face which did not leave a great upfront greeter impression. If this is the kind of people you have working for you, you'll be glad to get anyone decent.

Room Tip: Go to another hotel, do not stay here
