“Family fun weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2011

I recently stayed here with my son, my Mom and my niece as part of a shopping / relaxing weekend away. The Courtyard was fantastic. Our room was huge and had 2 queen beds and a pull out sofa. The room also had an area with a coffee maker and mini fridge which was perfect to store drinks and snacks. A huge closet accommodated coats, Overnight bags and shopping bags for all 4 of us.
The hotel pool was very nice and there was a jacuzzi hot tub which was a great treat at the end of the day. There was free wifi and also computers for use in the lobby. And a great cafe in the lobby for breakfast and dinner. They had an amazing apple cobbler dessert which my niece and I had several times.
The staff was courteous and helpful. The hotel was clean and very affordable. We loved it.

Room Tip: The rooms are very large and could accommodate 5 adults with the 2 queen beds and pullout couch. Th...

“Mostly Very Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2011

Hotel was easy to get to just of 95. Room was spacious and clean and staff was exceptionally friendly and accomodating. My only complaint is that the walls are super thin. We could hear the neighbors like they were in the same room and they weren't doing anything out of the ordinary to make noise. It wasn't too much of an issue because I fortunately sleep very deeply.

“Darn Courtyard by Marriott Bangor...guess I should have booked at the Hilton Garden Inn!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2011

Honestly, I could make a list as long as my arm of complaints about this place....so why not, at least someone might be helped into choosing the other "new hotel" in Bangor, the Hilton Garden Inn, which I am sure is better kept and better managed than this poor Courtyard.

Management, why are you letting this new hotel get run down appearing so quickly? Not only were there more than half a dozen good sized stains on the carpet in my suite (102), but also the carpets in the elevators were totally dirty and worn down. Why don't you train your housekeeping staff to wipe down fingerprints and smears from the area around the buttons and the inside doors of the elevators, and from the wooden arms of furniture and table surfaces in the guest rooms, nothing screams that another person has just been here and touching everything than smeary fingerprints on every surface! Why were there two disgusting cups full of (gagging) cigarette butts and brown sludge on the patio table outside my room (a patio that was supposed to be part of my suite, not some common use area for people to smoke and leave their gross trash in)? Why is checkout listed on the website as 11am but on the back of the door as 12 noon?, then when I call the front desk they say it is 11 but it is "no problem at all" for me to check out at noon, then the housekeepers are knocking and calling out at the room door at 10:58am? That right there is a double fail, front desk did not notify housekeeping that my room was told to check out by noon, and housekeeping was even knocking on the door before the 11am checkout time (or is it noon as posted on the back of the room door...who knows)!

The room HVAC turns on and off all night, you can't just set the fan to "on" like at most newer hotels, so if you are a light sleeper the constant on and off of the hvac all night will disturb you.

The side chair in the living room area of my suite was so beat up, stained, wood chipped off the legs, and fingerprint smeared that I actually called the front desk and asked for this piece of furniture to be removed from the room, I certainly wasn't going to use it and did want to look at dirty gross furniture for 3 days in a room that was running well over $200 a night (in Bangor Maine this is a higher hotel room rate). I have never before asked for a piece of furniture to be removed from a hotel room, and I've stayed in a lot of hotel rooms.

Now, the 3 different ladies that I encountered at the hotel front desk were helpful, apologetic, professional, and I think to a large degree powerless to do anything about the fact that the room I was put in was not kept in good repair. Oh, and on the last evening that I was staying there my key card no longer worked to get me in the side door of the hotel, and some other guests came along and theirs had stopped working also, so I guess it just felt like quite a let down that a "new" property was being let go so much as far as upkeep, and that there isn't better management of the housekeeping situation from the aspect of knocking on doors even before the 11am checkout time and not removing furniture that clearly should be repaired and not cleaning up filthy smoking waste from a guests balcony/patio area. Real Shame.

Sorry Courtyard, but you really let me down. I was looking forward to my "nice suite at one of the new hotels in Bangor", so bummer for me and for you.

Room Tip: choose a room at the Hilton Garden Inn :)

“Very Nice, would stay there again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2011

We were met by a delightful staff. They were very helpful. Our room was very large and very clean. They have a restaurant on the lobby floor where we had a great "cooked" breakfast the next morning. Would definetly staff there again.

“Bad location, bad internet, no free breakfast, typical Courtyard”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2011 via mobile

Stayed here once last year and the internet was unusable it was so slow. I said something at checkout and was told they were getting ready to upgrade it. Well, silly me I went back there again this year. Of course, the internet didn't work again. I complained and was told the same thing, that they were getting ready to upgrade. I emailed Marriott customer service, too, and was told the manager of the hotel would call me very soon. 4 days later I got an email from the manager that generically apologized and offered reward points. Rest of hotel is average..its clean and not very busy, which is relaxing in its own way, but hard to find down an unmarked side street with no signs and far off the road...typical Courtyard breakfast situation with nothing free, slow table service, and everything over priced. Next time in Bangor I'm going to try the Fairfield Inn.

Thank you for reviewing our hotel on TripAdvisor. We greatly value the opinions of our guests. I'm happy to hear you found our hotel clean & relaxing. The cleanliness standards you encountered on your visit are a source of pride for our team.

I'm sorry you experienced some difficulty in locating our property. Our hotel is advertised on the sign post at the entrance of Sylvan Road. Unfortunately this is the only space available to display our property name at this time.

I'm very concerned about your experience with our internet service. As a frequent traveler myself, I know how frustrating it can be when connectivity issues occur. Our hotel purchases the services of an internet support company that is available to our guests 24 hours a day to resolve any internet concerns. I'm very disappointed that you were not referred to internet support by one of our guest service associates. I sincerely apologize that your experience at our hotel was negatively impacted due to connectivity issue's. I invite you to call me directly to discuss your experience, my office phone number is as follows 207-299-9071. I look forward to speaking with you, and thank you for visiting the Courtyard by Marriott in Bangor Maine.
