The warm welcome set the stage for a lovely meander through the gardens in August. While the lilies were past their peak, the many garden rooms provided lots of ideas for garden design and the donkeys made us smile. A work in progress, the garden is a labour of love. While I am not usually a fan of quotations painted on garden signs, the well-chosen texts lifted our spirits and were very appropriate to the setting. I look forward to my return to see the progress on the Piet Oudolf style garden and the beautiful beds designed to attract hummers and butterflies.
Make a day of it and stop for cheese at Les Folies Bergere and lunch at La Toquade. Better yet go on market day in Ripon - local wine, cheese, produce, and meat in abundance.
