Nice hotel, no complaints. The free continental b-fast was delicious. The front desk was very helpful.

My husband and I generally try to stay at hotels in the Hilton family as he is an Honors Member and we are usually satisfied with the various Hilton hotels. For his most recent business trip to Lake Charles, LA, we booked a room at the Hampton Inn in Sulphur (not far from Lake Charles). There weren't many familiar hotels in the area to choose from and we had stayed at a Hampton Inn in New Orleans recently which we were satisfied with.

At any rate, I feel obligated to warn others about the Hampton Inn in Sulphur. The first disappointment was that there is a cemetary directly in front of the hotel. It was almost a good thing that the window of our room was completely filthy as it prevented us from having a nice clear view of the graveyard. Assuming one is willing to overlook the rather depressing location, the hotel was generally dingy and unpleasant. The room was sparsely furnished and uncomfortable. It was more similar to what one might expect from a Super Eight or Econo Lodge. This hotel was definitely not up to Hampton Inn standards. The most insulting thing was that the rate was $ 89/night which was actually more than other hotels in the area.

We actually checked into the room only long enough to use our laptop to find a different hotel then we checked out and stayed at Harrah's in Lake Charles instead (was actually nicer for less money). Fortunately, Hampton has a satisfaction guaranteed or your money back policy and I suspect they really lose some money on this particular hotel.
