“FRIENDLY VILLAGE PUB STILL SERVING GREAT FOOD AND BEER”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013

I have now been many times to eat here so I thought I would give my latest comments.
If you like posh eateries this is not for you, but if you like great food at pub prices in a real village pub, then read on.
The place is an old typical village pub, with friendly locals drinking at the bar, great real ale, I am not much of a wine drinker.
We went last autumn and sat outside for a drink, enjoying the warmth of the waning sun and watching the cows in the fields of the gently rolling northamptonshire countryside.
Then had a visit in february, then again about 6 weeks ago, Every dish we have ever eaten here has been very good, usually plain simple, typically british high quality cooking, with the odd exotic.
The pub is run by a company called "The 2 fat Lads Limited", a friendly pair who who aptly chose the company name with a sense of humour.
Booking is essential as it has only a few tables, thoroughly recommended.

“Maybe Sunday lunch isn't the highlight”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013 via mobile

We visited for Sunday lunch when only a Sunday roast is available for main course. Intros were really tasty but main was a regular roast. The menu looked great and I suspect it's much better on other days when the full menu is available. We'll certainly go back to find out. Service was ok but a little slow. Decent range of beers on offer.

“QUEEN OF HEARTS .. OF LEICESTERSHIRE.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

We went to celebrate Daughters Birthday, with a groupon deal, so didn't expect a lot.( cheapy deal) and reviews weren't brill. It was blooming excellent. Staff welcoming, efficient, and grafters. Food was amazing, it really was, and my adult kid's, who are quite fussy to say the least, said they,ll take their mates there. Lovely Village Pub, still alive and kicking.Keep it up. Food superb, staff working their butts off, village pub interior and out,,, how it should be. Keep up the good work. We wish you a happy prosperous future. CHEERS. We will revisit, and are looking forward to it. Only a couple of ideas:- another member of staff would help,, bar/clearing tables/taking orders. and extra wine menus, Oh and one extra vinegar bottle. But we realise cash is an issue, so we just say you are doing a fab job.GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL> See ya soon.

“Lovely friendly pub with good honest grub.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013 via mobile

My husband and i visited this pub along with our daughter on Saturday evening without a booking. It was a busy night but we were told if we waited we could eat later. We ordered our drinks and found a cosy table. The bar man, one of the owners was very friendly and all the customers seemed very happy. We ordered our mains homemade fish pie. Homemade burger and chicken milanase all were super and very filling. We really didnt have room for pudding but homemade chocolate and orange bread and butter pudding was too good to miss. I have to say it tasted as good as it sounds. Our bill came to 55 Pounds very good value we were given a loyalty card which gives discounts on return visits. We will soonbe back. If you are in the area please call in for good home cooked food at a great price. You will return again and again.

“New owners”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2013

Karl Banks and Adam Davidson took the tenancy of the premises on the 1st of October 2012 and they are in the process of refurbishing the premises. The décor is a bit shabby at the moment, but these enthusiastic owners are planning for better things. When we were there it appeared to be a popular place for the locals and families.
We had a pleasant lunch which consisted of small, but very tasty starters and a main dish of beer battered cod - which was large and delicious. The menu was varied and the prices very reasonable.
