“Awesome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

We have been to the Queens Head a few times since just before Christmas 2012. The two guys that run it really know their stuff. One specialises in food, the other in his ale. They are friendly from the moment you put your head through the door. Can't recommend highly enough, the food (and drink) has been great every single time we've went.

Some of the other reviewers are complaining that the decor isn't perfect: Please be aware this is not a 'just built' or renovated chain-pub. It's a good-old fashioned independant 'local' pub - run very, very well. If you want "faux old" but perfect decor, with bland food and indifferent staff, go somewhere else.
Leave the rest of us to go to somewhere where they really care about their customers. For the record, we live 10 miles away and it's well worth the journey.

“Great food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

Thought we would try because of the good reviews on here. We weren't disappointed the food was fantastic very friendly staff . If this can be maintained then it can only go from strength to strength. Decor a bit tired but I'm sure that will be improved.

“Disappointing Lunch”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

We had read the reviews, checked out the website and we were so looking forward to our first visit. However our food took over an hour to come and it was not worth the wait. On the plus side the barman was friendly and the beer was well kept. We hope they manage to sort things out soon, but at the moment the Chef is letting the front of house down, and both need to be good these days to keep customers returning.

“Prepare For A Long Wait ... Worth It? ... Not Really :-(”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

We decided to visit based on previous reviews. Unfortunately we did not share the opinion of the majority. As has been mentioned, the wait for food is considerable, an hour for mains and 45 mins for dessert thereafter. The mains generally were good, but the steak I ordered rare/medium rare arrived well done but I was too hungry to send it back!!
The desserts were a mixed bag ... two treacle sponges had to be sent back to the kitchen as they were cold (including the custard!) only for the original ones to reappear obviously microwaved rather than new ones which etiquette usually insists upon and the two winter berry crumbles lacked, well, crumble!!
As an additional point of interest, the ladies toilet is situated on the first floor and accessed by a fairly steep staircase with loose carpeting neither of which is really suitable or safe for the more elderly. Our guest decided to 'cross her legs' until she got home rather than risk it!!!
On a positive note. The front of house staff were great ... attentive and fun, sadly let down by the kitchen.

“Fabulous food and a warm welcome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

We visited for lunch on a Saturday and found it to be quiet and very welcoming. Don't be put off by the appearance and decor, the food and service more than make up for it.

Food was home cooked and lovely and we really enjoyed our visit. A real gem of a place and we will be back.
