The Norton is a jewel for art lovers. The recent Vietnam War photographic exhibit was really excellent. Well worth the time

“A hidden gem with an appropriate collection.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

This museum is a beautiful, hidden gem in a residential part of town. The grounds were beautiful, even in the fall, and it made for a nice afternoon destination.

The staff was very friendly. We were greeted at the door and were offered a nice overview of the museum and grounds.

The museum features a nice collection, with many items that have regional appeal/ties, including some pieces that tell Shreveport's history.

The museum features several Rodin casts, which were beautiful and probably the most interesting pieces in the collection.

There were many great carvings/sculptures on display, many featuring western/nature themes.

“Must see during spring.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2012

While the art gallery has visiting collections throughout the year as well as a good permanent collection, it is the grounds that are the big attraction. Especially during spring when the azaleas are in bloom.

Over the years they have been constantly added on to the walking paths, benches, and outdoor sculptures in an eclectic fashion that seems to have no master plan while watching it evolve. However, it comes together nicely and will soon offer things to see blooming during all seasons when the new plantings have matured more.

I think it is Shreveport's best garden/public area.

“Huge Exhibit Full of Wonderful Masterpieces”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012

This museum was quite large. The curators were super helpful and friendly. There were all different types of exhibits: paintings, photos, sculptures, a gun display, and a doll display. The grounds were beautiful, but we were unable to explore as it was raining. Will definitely be going back to spend more time looking at all the exhibits. It was pretty unbelievable that it was free as well!

This is a great place to spend some time. All the other reviewers are spot on. The library is a must see. Be sure to talk to the docents to appreciate what you are seeing.
