“Moldy B&B without keys….”

Barrow House

This b&b has the strange rule of no keys. The lady told us it was so safe there – no need to lock the rooms….
You can lock it from inside, but not when you leave the room. It might be right that everyone living in this little town are honest, but what about every tourist visiting…?

The mattress was a bit old and bumpy. And the décor is a bit too much,.
The rooms was clean, but the sink had a bad smell.
The whole house smelled of mildew.

The owner is pleasant and tell you all that is to do around (not very much)

You have to pay for breakfast; the included one is just cakes and coffee.

And even though check out time is 11 – while we had breakfast at 9 am – they entered our room and removed all the linen…. You did not get the feeling that you could stay any longer…!

Ohmygosh, I can't say enough good things about the Barrow House Inn in St. Francisville, LA! Shirley Dittlof and her son Chris make every guest feel welcome, as if they've stepped back into the past when Southern hospitality reigned supreme. Breakfasts, including Eggs Benedict and Eggs Creole, are delicious. The home is 200 years old, ideally located in the historic downtown, and is tastefully decorated with quality antiques. Each room has its own sweet charm. It is a place that people return to again and again, not only for the experience at the Barrow House Inn, but to also experience and understand the bygone days of antebellum life. Plantations built by English settlers dot the countryside of gorgeous West Feliciana Parish, each just a few minutes drive from the Barrow House Inn. Thank you Shirley and Chris, for another wonderful experience!

I stayed at the Barrow House in late October and found it to be an ideal place to stay. My 2nd floor room which featured a Prudent Mallard bed, complete with an authentic spanish moss mattress, had EVERTHING anyone could want. The inn is located in the historic district of St. Francisville which is utterly charming. I also highly recommend the OxBow restaurant on the grounds of the Myrtles about 3 miles from the inn.
