“Great Property and Location, Rustic but Ideal”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2011

The location is pristine and the property is one to REALLY enjoy on the Bayou Teche. I loved our cabin and yes it could use some updates but I would certainly go there again.

Note: other reviews complained about no B&B breakfast and it is clearly spelled out that it is continental. Our plate of fresh fruit and muffins were grand. The privacy and beauty of the property more than make up for it but no...... this isn't a place if you are for something fancy. Personally, I loved sitting by Bayou Teche watching wildlife and thought I was sitting in a slice of heaven.

PS: Like all places in New Iberia no matter how fancy, there is a train that toots early in the morning.

The cabin, while in a great location, simply did not live up to its web page description. I don't mind well worn, or even run down, but I couldn't see past the dirtiness to the charm. It had an "off" odor, the kitchen counter, sink and stove were grungy and the coffee maker stained to the point that I would not have drunk from it. The bathroom tub was dingy at best, as was the toilet. The toiletries provided were mismatched hotel shampoos and soaps. I had spoken with the owner prior to booking about my allergy to fire ants. She said she had not seen any. Yet I saw several on the porch and my friend saw a fire ant hill within 15 minutes of our arrival. The price we paid for not staying there (too late to cancel) was $21.00 higher than the Rip Van Winkle Gardens and Guest Cottages where we did stay, which had tons of charm, great amenities and was spanking clean.

Room Tip: Do not book unless cancellation period is waived.

Gosh! We booked this place after speaking with the owner on the phone. She said that the weekday rate was currently $125, although the website says it is much cheaper. The cottage was dirty, very rough around the edges, and there were only two half pints of orange juice, and one half pint of milk for the breakfast. The coffee pot was old and stained. We decided to pay for the night, but look elsewhere for accommodations. We found delightful cottages at The Rip Van Winkle Gardens for $104 and all kinds of appetizers, wine, and breakfast goodies.

Room Tip: Go elsewhere for a better room!

My husband and I enjoyed our stay in this cozy cottage on the bayou. The cottage was well appointed and very clean. The grounds were lovely and the owner was very kind and accommodating. This isn't a typical B and B; it's for the more independent-minded traveler, so don't expect a lavish, hot breakfast in the morning. But, do expect some delicious pastries and fruit as well as helpful advice for area places to eat and enjoy. The only complaint was that it was a bit chilly (it WAS February), but we could just turn up the heat and take care of the main room that way.

As far as B&B's go, this place is terribly run. They don't have a clue about class or hospitality. It's just a couple of sheds seemingly decorated from flea markets. Don't beleive the hype about this place. It's a joke. Give me a break!!!! Check out the B&B's near "Shadows on the Teche" in New Iberia for a great experience.

We've stayed in several B & B's and never have we had to settle for a cold muffin and a banana for the breakfast part of the "B".

I would encourage staying elsewhere for a comprehensive B & B experience.

We "assume" breakfast is a standard part of the B.

Live and learn.
