“Tries hard, but stops short”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2011

This is the fourth time we have stayed here over the years. It is in a good location for our needs, convenient to the Interstate, Causeway, Mall, and Metairie.

Over the years they have remodeled, and done a good job of updating the decor, especially in the common areas. They have a light service restaurant, bar area that is great if you want something without going out.

What I think is lacking is the rooms do not have safes, or refrigerators in them. I have stayed at lower rated places that had these, so I do not know why they do not have them, at least a safe which doesn't take up much room. The vanity area is small without much room to spread out. Another thing that I do not like about this hotel, and many others is the single serve coffee maker. If there is one person in the room, then maybe it is ok, but if there is more than one it is a pain to have to brew each cup. It may not be sanitary either as I suspect some guests pour a second cup of water measured from their just used first cup without washing it out. Oh well, corporate decision makers do not always think about the real world when it comes to cutting costs.

One the good side the staff was excellent, helpful, and cheerful. The exercise room is reasonable with a small variety of updated equipment. There are conveniences like a common area computer connected with a printer to print up your boarding passes for flights, a small snack shop for sodas, chips, etc. a large screen tv with couches and chairs for watching news, ball games, etc.

Overall it is a decent hotel that tries hard, in a good location, but has a few disappointments as compared to the price.

“Nice lobby!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2011

When you first enter the hotel, the lobby has been refurbished, and is very sleek and modern. It is a nice place to have breakfast or just hang out. When you go up to your room, it was refurbished three or four years ago, but it is definitely an older hotel that was fixed up.

The location of the hotel is right off I-10, but near construction, and it is sometimes tough to make a left turn onto the main road.

If you can get a decent rate on this hotel, it is certainly worth staying at.

“Great lobby for my MOTEL room.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2011 via mobile

They spent their whole budget renovating the lobby and they dropped the ball in the rooms. There was a super friendly maintenance guy who filled my cooler in the kitchen and a visible security guy walking the parking at 450am.

The rooms received new bedding, mattresses, couches, carpet, TV's, and accessories. The HVAC vents had some major dust bunnies. They should have wallpapered the room because I think they hired a blind man to paint and told him painter's tape is for the birds. I can't say I ever noticed paint before this. The wall outlets need new covers and actual outlets.

The wall plates are old tan and cracked. The outlet won't hold your device plugs like when someone with a big head tries on your shades. Be prepared to rig the outlet or your cell might not charge. The actual furniture is from 1990. The stuff is beat up and would sit waiting for weeks for a new owner if listed for sale at goodwill. I used my own pen and touched up the coffee table; no charge. At least hire the blind guy and give him sandpaper, super glue, and a brown Sharpie.

The bathroom and vanity have seen better days. The exhaust fan sounds like a motor boat. The caulking needs a disinfection. The towels are thin and have spots you can see through. My sink in the second room was cracked. Oh yeah, the first room had slept in sheets with wrinkles and hairs.

The lobby is gorgeous and has Starbucks. The wifi is great all over. My work computer stay connected and ipad streams beautifully.

The rooms in this place are Motel 6 and give Courtyard a bad name.

Tip: Walk next door to Residence Inn for free breakfast if you still insist on staying.

“Expensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2011

Planned a family reunion in New Orleans. This hotel is very nice and has many paid amenities. The only free things in the hotel were coffee and parking. The free coffee was hidden and only available at certain hours. Starbucks in the Bistro was available at most hours at Starbucks prices. I looked but saw no shuttle to either to the airport or downtown, leaving us with an expensive cab ride. We were at least 5 miles to either one. The hotel and it's employees were very nice and thoroughly helpful.
