I will get the problems out of the way first. On day four of our eight day stay, housekeeping only half cleaned our room. One of two beds were only partially made up, trash wasn't emptied and bath wasn't cleaned. I called the front desk to complain, and within 2 mins, two members of management were at my door. They apologized and told me that what happened was totally unacceptable and proceeded to clean our room themselves. One of them told me that she wasn't good at making beds, but she would do her best.I was very impressed by her gesture and her effort.
My other issue is smoking, you can't smoke in your rooms, so smokers stand outside of their rooms to smoke. The hotel has a motel setting, in that your door opens up outside. The difference is, instead of opening up around the perimeter overlooking the parking lot like motels, your door opens up facing the interior courtyard and pool. So, to get to your room, you have to pass through smokers standing outside of their rooms. You also have to pass through smokers in the courtyard and going through the partially enclosed alcove leading to and from the lobby. I suggested to a gentleman at the front desk, that the hotel should consider an out of the way smoking area. I was told that they cannot control what guest do outside of their rooms. He didn't seem too thrilled with me, maybe he was a smoker, who knows.
Now to the good stuff. The hotel is very, very well maintained. I t reminded me of a cruise ship operation, on a cruise ship, there are always people everywhere, cleaning and polishing. There were always staff around taking care of the place. We were in New Orleans for the AAU JR Olympic Games and there were several athletes booked at this hotel, I thought that the staff did an outstanding job of dealing with all of us and keeping the place clean. One night, I was standing outside waiting for my kids to get out of the pool, at 9pm the pool closes and as soon as the pool emptied out, there were two guys waiting to clean the area.
The complimentary breakfast was exceptional. The eggs looked and tasted like eggs, the bacon was cooked well and the biscuits and gravy were good as well. There was always 2-3 people keeping the area well stocked and cleaned. This was no easy task with a hotel full of track and field athletes and a bus load of wrestlers.
The Ritz Carlton is my hotel of choice and the Ramada Metairie has a few of those touches. There are crown and toe moldings, granite counter tops and the bedding's are nicely done. The lobby, business area, breakfast area, meeting rooms all have a large hotel feel. I loved the roped tile accents in the restrooms in the lobby area. The hotel had a boutique feel to it, if this place was downtown in the French Quarters and changed it's name to Le' Cerc or something and charged $450 per night, I would not flinch.
Another example of how quickly things get done. We had to use the onsite laundry room three times during our stay. It appears that some idiot tried to kick in the door to the laundry room on Thursday night. On Friday, I noticed that the door to the laundry room was sticking. Within the hour, there was a repairman working on the laundry room door.
On the morning that we checked out, the young lady at the front desk informed me that she was also the assistant housekeeping supervisor. She told me that she received a call at home about our dirty room and again apologized to me. When we get back to New Orleans, the Ramada Metairie will be our Hotel of choice.
I concur with the previous reviewers, the ACME Oyster House is a great place to eat and the Hotel is only minutes from all the sites in New Orleans.
