We used “We Live to Eat NOLA” (3 course dinner for $35) as our excuse to try this Ralph Brennan restaurant. I would have liked a quieter atmosphere, but this is a small place, with tables squeezed in tight. We were close to the hostess stand and the bar, with 3 TV screens showing the LSU game. I guess I expected more of a "fine dining" atmosphere and less "sports bar" feel.
The service was VERY slow, in spite of the fact that there were empty tables & the servers seemed to be rushing. We wondered if, perhaps, the kitchen was under-staffed. The corn and crab bisque was a terrible disappointment – not much flavor and no crab whatsoever. I could have come up with something better, using a can of Nibblets corn! However, the small salad was nicely done and my redfish & lump crab was awesome. My husband’s shrimp and pasta was buttery and tasty, but he wished the shrimp tails had been removed for him. Why do restaurants insist on doing this “for show”, forcing the customer to get all messy, removing them?? It’s never appreciated, believe me.
We both wished we had bread to soak up the delicious sauce, but none was served. Our server was very pleasant and did check on us during the long wait times. We even had to wait a longer than usual for our deserts, although the bread pudding and ice box pie were both very good, when they finally arrived. Overall, the food was good, but since there are so many other choices in the area for a nice dining experience, it will probably be a long time before we try Café B’s again.
