Our second to last stop on our tour of the South, we stopped at the La Quinta Inn in Lafayette. First let me say that this was the worst hotel in all the places we stopped at. Thankfully it was for only one night since our tour bus departed the next day for New Orleans. Uppon getting the keys to our room, we found out we were on the second story which was no problem. But when we walked up the stairs to go to the room...that is when things started to look down. The walkway, wall and room door were infested with the Louisiana "Lovebug." If you don't know what they are, look them up! They are these black fly type bugs. They were all over the 3 rooms located in the back to the left. When we carefully opened the door to the room we were not surprised to see 4-5 more Lovebugs inside the room all over the wall. On close inspection, we realized there were also alot of dead ones all over the rug but, since the carpeting was dark, it was harder to notice them until you look close. Not a place to go barefoot in!! Other family members had the room next door. They had the same infestation of Lovebugs on the outside of the door and some inside the room but, they also had another guest.....a good sized cockroach also showed itself. It was squashed in a hurry. Another of our tour group members complained of two roaches in their room and another of a strong bleach smell in their room. Besides this the tub was also rather filthy looking and needed a good bleaching and I found a dead Lovebug in my bed!!! So anyone headed this way....think long and hard if you want to sleep with the bugs!!!

Stayed here for 2 nights in Dec 2006. The room was clean. Everything worked ok. However there had been a problem with an infestation of crickets and we did find a dead one under the desk!! Free breakfast, which was ok. Staff very helpful and friendly. Not somewhere to stay that gives you comfort and peace of mind but is alright as a stop gap on a trip. Didn't feel this was a suitable hotel for foreign tourists. However our stay here was ok.

Stayed here with the family for one night on a trip from Georgia to Texas. It was OK - the most important things, a clean, relatively quiet room that did not smell bad in a convenient location next to I10 - were satisfied. This property seemed a little older than other La Quinta's so little things (the TV making a strange noise, the bathroom light flickering) could be found if you looked hard. The free breakfast in the morning was average (usual assortment of cereals, coffee, toast etc.) and the wireless highspeed worked great. Pets our welcome (we had our dog). So if you just need a place to crash and put your stuff for a nights sleep, this property will do just fine.

The La Quinta in Lafayette, while reasonably priced, showed it. During the two nights we were there we "shared" the place with drunken wedding guests, baseball teams, truckers, and large dogs who relieved themselves outside our door on the grass. At least I hope it was a dog! I guess you can't expect much for $61 a night, but I would have spent more for a little nicer accommodations. If you're on a strict budget - fine, but otherwise keep on moving. And did I mention the killer traffic and drivers running stop signs?
