Our second to last stop on our tour of the South, we stopped at the La Quinta Inn in Lafayette. First let me say that this was the worst hotel in all the places we stopped at. Thankfully it was for only one night since our tour bus departed the next day for New Orleans. Uppon getting the keys to our room, we found out we were on the second story which was no problem. But when we walked up the stairs to go to the room...that is when things started to look down. The walkway, wall and room door were infested with the Louisiana "Lovebug." If you don't know what they are, look them up! They are these black fly type bugs. They were all over the 3 rooms located in the back to the left. When we carefully opened the door to the room we were not surprised to see 4-5 more Lovebugs inside the room all over the wall. On close inspection, we realized there were also alot of dead ones all over the rug but, since the carpeting was dark, it was harder to notice them until you look close. Not a place to go barefoot in!! Other family members had the room next door. They had the same infestation of Lovebugs on the outside of the door and some inside the room but, they also had another guest.....a good sized cockroach also showed itself. It was squashed in a hurry. Another of our tour group members complained of two roaches in their room and another of a strong bleach smell in their room. Besides this the tub was also rather filthy looking and needed a good bleaching and I found a dead Lovebug in my bed!!! So anyone headed this way....think long and hard if you want to sleep with the bugs!!!
