“Great front desk clerk ... horrible room!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2010

When arriving, I was greeted at the front desk by "Jake" ... possibly one of the best hotel front desk employees in the Country! Based upon my initial impression I was looking forward to a great hotel experience. BUT ... such was not the case. The first room I was assigned strongly smelled like cigarette smoke (this is a non-smoking hotel and housekeeping should have removed the room from service until it could be deodorized). The second room's bathroom had not been cleaned. The third room was "OK" but not overly clean.

What truly amazed me was the paint in each room. The hotel had, apparently, used a painter to "touch up" the paint in the rooms. The paint didn't match! So each room had a hodge podge of paint colors on the walls!

To Jake's credit, he did his best to take care of the situation but this hotel has certainly gone downhill and housekeeping is an issue here.

You can find newer and better maintained hotel properties for the same room rate in Lafayette.

We had stayed here two previous times about a year ago and decided to give this hotel another try since we had two good stays.. We arrived about 10:00PM on Dec 31st. There was only one staff member working at the hotel. There was a note on the front desk that said they were away from the desk and would be back shortly. Two other couples came to check in as I was standing waiting for a desk clerk to return. We finally got checked in and proceeded to our room. The key would not work. I left my husband at the room door and went back downstairs and was given another key. Back up to the room and this key did not work either. Also, there was loud music coming from the room next to the room we were assigned. Another trip to the front desk to get anther key. At that time I informed her we did not want to stay in that room because of the noise coming from the adjoining room. My husband walked by and there were about 10 people in the room. The front desk clerk changed our rooms to the third floor. (The first room was on the 6th floor. I went back up to the 6th floor and helped my husband take our belongings to the 3rd floor. Went to our room and THE KEY DID NOT WORK. Went back downstairs and got another key. Finally - the key worked and we got in our room. We had a king room. They have new "adjustable" king beds. It was one of the most uncomfortable I have slept on. We left the second day and did not return till about 9:00PM. Went to our room on the 3rd floor and the key did not work again. My husband went back to the front desk and got another key. IT DID NOT WORK EITHER. He called the front desk from the hall phone and the desk clerk came and let us in the room with a master key. We did not have a key for the room.
Breakfast on the first day was good -server was very prompt and attentive - 2nd morning the bacon tasted horrible (like it had been warmed up from the day before). Server finally asked if we wanted coffee refill right before we left...
Both morning when I showered the water went from scalding hot to ice cold during the shower.
Only one elevator worked the entire two days.
As I stated, we have stayed at this hotel twice before with a good experience. I will not stay here again. We have stayed at the Lafayette Hilton several times and it has always been a good experience.

I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn during the LAGCOE 2009 energy event, Oct. 25-29, 2009, Two staff with the hotel, Marisa and Jake provided me and the staff from the U.S. Commercial Service with outstanding service. Their southern hospitality and great service they provided me and colleagues made our stay in Lafayette one of the highlights of the time we spent in Lafayette for the LAGCOE event. The made-to-order breakfast for around $8.25 was also a real treat. This hotel has it all: Great beds, pillows, complimentary Internet, free coffee/tea and fruit throughout the day, and a GREAT staff. Thanks Marisa and Jake for making my staff in Lafayette a truly memorable one.

The hotel was very easy to get to from the interstate and directly across the street from the Cajun Dome. The price was fantastic and our room was perfect. Everything was clean and looked like new. Indoor pool was a favorite for the kids. Only issue was elevators were extreamly slow but I think the hotel was full.
I would stay here again and again. It was by far the nicest hotel I have stayed in while in Lafayette!

After reading the tripadvisor reviews and seeing the photos I contacted hotel GM, Cindy, for more information. She was extremely helpful and went above and beyond in answering questions and making this a very special trip for us! It was beyond our expectations!! Our room was spacious and newly decorated, the staff was accommodating in every aspect from check-in to housekeeping. They served complimentary fresh baked cookies and had a nice dining facility and breakfast buffet. The pool was very clean and well kept. We are picky travelers and will definitely return to this hotel when in the area! The location is very convenient to many things... highly recommend it and very much appreciate all extra touches! Thank you!

This is the best hotel in Lafayette. The front desk staff were all great. They were welcoming and efficient. The guest rooms were fabulous. Plenty of space, they looked and smelled clean. Beds were extremely comfortable. The hotel has an indoor pool and whirlpool which is great all year long. The service and food in the restaurant were outstanding. You will not find a better hotel staff, from the General Manager, who you get to know at the Manager's Reception on Tuesday nights all the way to the Maintenance Man, who is alway ready to lend a hand, even if its not maintenance. If you looking for one night or a week's stay, this is the place to be.

  • Liked — Size of the room. Large and comfortable
  • Disliked — can't think of anything.

First, I agree with the most recent posting - the bathroom really needed to be cleaned properly. There were also bottle caps from various beers lying on the rug in the room, which I picked up and tossed out. The staff did not put calls through to the room from our business contacts in Lafayette, and in fact told the callers that I was not at the hotel.

Pluses - the breakfast was good. More of a minus - an evening meal was lackluster.

  • Liked — convenient location, breakfast
  • Disliked — cleanliness, inept staff
