Close to the airport but off the highway... Gator Cove is actually several businesses. On top of the hill is a Lodge for large parties that Gator Cove caters. It is wooden inside with lots of historic farming tools and hunting trophy heads on the walls. Upon entering, the delicious bar-b-que smells and sights are fantastic! We had the most tender and flavorful beef brisket imaginable along with chicken and pork ribs. Baked beans were seasoned just right with bacon and sausage. Potato salad was made just like Mom's with lots of hard boiled eggs, onion, celery, mustard.... and then they jazzed it up with fresh herbs.. WOW... was it good. The fresh gaden salad had everything except the kitchen sink in it. There were other items available but the crawfish were tops to be remembered. All 80 of our guests raved about the crawfish and these were out of State people. Oh.... can't stop there....they made homemade apple and peach cobblers that were warm from the oven that our guests ate up with no leftovers. Everyone raved!!
Down the hill is Gator Cove the Restaurant.... during the week Will, a famous Louisiana Chef, creates a modern spin on authentic Cajun recipes.... My favorite was a vegetable stir fry with large shrimp dipped into a cinnamon and yam tempura batter and quickly fried. Every time we eat there we take home doggie bags because the portions are huge.... great value... great taste.... delightful people.... They serve the traditional southern Louisiana Cajun food, too.
Oh, be on the lookout for those gorgeous peacocks... 6 roam the acreage. Bring your camera... between the hand painted murals on the wall and the wildlife that roams the acreage you'll have plenty of photo ops for the entire family. This is a must experience when you are in Lafayette, La.
