“Last stop over to Houston - June 26,2014”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2014

I found this Hotel via Groupon Hotels and I had not just a second thought about staying because of the negative reviews. I even called 72 h prior to inquire about canceling my reservation but still push through with the stay. The lobby has a character to which one will notice as you come in. There's no musty smell as with other reviews not until you come in the elevator-- the old hotel smell will drift. The room size was fine but the carpet was not very clean and not well fitted on the floor(several lumps is noticeable). The old hotel smell is also present, somehow pungy (i believe from the carpet thus needs more care/cleaning with a good deodorizer) which others described as urine like smell. The beds were comfy for us and linens smells fresh and clean. Breakfast has a fee but we did not eat here.

The front desk was ok but needs more welcoming gesture when accommodating guests that are checkin in. When I came, there were these couple who were complaining about their reservation by phone not being given despite their verification from the receiving person prior and the front desk did not very well addressed their issue. They saw me in the line but left the desk without even giving a I will be right with you moment to recognize my presence. The morning lady for the check out next day was more accommodating.

This hotel just needs a little bit more improvement and it will be a great place to stay.

For places not to be missed when you're here: There's a very good bakery called Poupart Bakery about 10min drive maybe from the Hotel which is incredibly has delish and affordable pastries from $3.99 and breads from $.99. Then don't miss the Tabasco Factory at Avery Island with a $1 toll to get in but all worth the visit. If you like the Tabasco sauce, you will love all the other products they have that you don't see in the groceries. Borden's Ice Cream House is also near with the classic interior and great place to chill out in a hot day. The large cup is like a pint if you wish to indulge and some heavy sweets and the large cone with the candy trims is a big hit to kids.

I would have sent this directly to the hotel rather than posting it on the web; however, I was requested to review my experience on this website.

I stayed at the Hotel Acadiana for a state-wide conference, and I was frankly disappointed in the lack of professionalism and disorganization at the front desk, and in the issues we had during the conference. First, I was forgotten at the airport after calling for a shuttle. Bad first impression. Second, materials that were sent for the conference were seemingly impossible to locate; finally they appeared. Third, the breakout room for one of our sessions had its laptop run out of battery life during the speaker's presentation. The speaker had to interrupt the session midstream in order to hook up another laptop. The front desk staff never even sent someone in to troubleshoot the issue. Unacceptable.

If this hotel is going to be a venue for conferences, these issues need to be seriously addressed. All of this said, several of the staff members were standouts, which was the silver lining, I guess.

We had reservations to stay at this hotel for a wedding in late June so when we needed to come to town for another event a couple weeks prior to the wedding, we thought we'd stay here then too. Upon arrival at the hotel we stood in line in the lobby awaiting our turn. It was around 9:30 pm and there was one person in front of us but only one person working the counter. We waited in line for about 15 minutes as the front desk attendant moved like her body was made of lead. While waiting in line we looked around and thought the place looked really pretty....then out of no where a drop of water fell on my husband's arm. We looked up and it turned out to be condensation from the a/c vent in the ceiling. We moved over a couple of steps to avoid it continuing to drip on us. Finally, it was our turn to check in and once again the attendant moved like a snail. Eventually we received our room keys but no explanation as to where to locate the elevators. We found them on our own and made our way upstairs. The elevator smelled like a boys locker room right after athletics period. I couldn't wait to get out of the elevator. Then once the doors opened, the heat hit me! We stepped out of the elevator into the hallway to find there was no a/c in the hallways. Fearful our room would be the worst imaginable there was plenty of room for a good surprise to turn up. Upon entering our room the first thing i noticed was how cool it was. The a/c is a window unit like Motel 6 used in the 70s...but it worked and that was all that mattered! The carpet of the room looked like it had been outside in a dust storm and never cleaned. There were stains everywhere and it was run down pretty bad. I refused to walk in the room without having shoes on even right after getting out of the shower because it made me feel dirty just to look at the carpet. The beds were very comfortable and the sheets appeared to be clean (it was about the only thing clean in the room). The a/c was pretty noisy but our room was right next to the elevator bank so it helped to drown out any hallway or elevator noise so we appreciated the a/c noise. We slept very well that night and woke up to a nice cold room! After getting ready we decided to go downstairs to eat breakfast as our room rate included breakfast. We arrived in the dining room and waited about 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge us and seat us but none of the workers did. Finally my husband decided to walk through the dining room to take a look at what was available on the breakfast buffet to decide if he even wanted to eat here. The only serving platter with food available was the fruit bowl. All others didn't have enough left for a single serving of anything. We decided it was time to check out and head someplace else for breakfast.

As soon as we returned home, I immediately cancelled our reservations for the last weekend in June. There was no way I was going to stay at this nasty hotel with terrible service again after this experience. We decided to book a room at the Staybridge Suites which is nearby instead and when we stayed there this past weekend, I thought I was at the Ritz Carlton in comparison. It really is THAT MUCH NICER! NEVER EVER EVER stay at Hotel Acadiana EVER EVER EVER!!!

Room Tip: Do yourself a favor and book another hotel no matter how much more it costs. This place is disgustin...

I was satisfied up until I discovered a large cockroach in the bathroom, crawling on my hair brush. I told the woman working the front desk when I checked out and she didn't seem to care. I will not stay at this hotel ever again!

HOT HOT HOT, hallways hot, room never cooled down, meeting room hot. They know they have a problem and have known for quite some time. The price is low for a reason !! If A/C is not a requirement then this is your kinda place. The breakfast was good and the Food and Beverage director was on top of his game but the check in person Lauren was less than helpful and I let her know it.
