As a very frequent traveler, this is the first time in a year that I've been moved to write a truly negative review. Spent a 3-nite stay here during BCS football bowl weekend to avoid highly escalated special event prices closer to the Superdome. The easy 15 minute drive down to the French Quarter, Bourbon Street, etc. seemed a worthwhile trade off versus spending hundreds more to be downtown. Being close to the airport and adjacent to a lake front casino seemed a plus as well. [Note -- If you don't have a rental car, getting to the "Quarter" will cost you about $30 via cab one-way.] There are also various restaurant choices and shopping within a mile of this hotel. Aside from the positive locational issues, staying at this place was a very forgettable experience!! The staff encountered from top to bottom was sub-par and exhibited overall poor training. There were check-in mistakes, room cleanliness problems ( both upon arrival and during the stay), food service issues and also facility / room maintenance issues. The bed was among the worst I've ever slept upon -- the mattress was completely shot and even bowed to a dip in the middle. The linens were similarly thin and over worn. There was a dirty bath room on arrival and sub-standard room cleaning during the stay. The restaurant staff was almost a joke. Whether you wanted juice at the sparsely attended breakfast or a glass of wine in the evening, there never seemed to be sufficient glasses available . Worse yet, the people you normally rely on for help were largely inattentive and untrained. A premium room rate was selected and paid for (so-called "romance package") but the included amenities were not even known of, let alone provided for by the front desk personnel until a repeated third inquiry was made of a manager. On the 1st day, it was asked that a burned out light in the bathroom be replaced and 2 days later it was yet to be handled. For the first time in memory, the customary front desk acknowledgment of Hilton Honors status (I'm a Gold member) was completely ignored. Overall, the physical "building" and its location are OK. Most of the shortcomings here could be corrected by investing in some good management, some good employees and some good training -- along with maybe some new mattresses, linens and sufficient glassware. We did obtain a credit of one room night after relating all that occurred to the general manager, but until serious personnel changes are known to occur here, I'd strongly suggest seeking alternatives.
