After two nights in New Orleans, we drove about an hour into Cajun country and explored the beautiful bayous around Houma. The innkeeper doubles as a district judge and is the nephew of the famous US Senator Ellender. Both gentlemen are known for fabulous cooking. Our breakfasts were simply amazing. In addition, our host and hostess were generous in taking time to tell us where to go for the best nature walks, swamp boat tours, and birdwatching sites. The house is full of Southern charm and history. Houma has funky and authentic Cajun restaurants (in addition to the usual chain restaurant offerings) as well as a historic plantation/museum worth exploring.
