“Would have been 5 stars but we also stayed at Naladhu”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2013 via mobile

Easy to get to from Male. Very nice resort boat and staff. 30 minutes from Male. Food better than most in Maldives. Great staff. Pool is a highlight, busy but fun. Very active part of the property. We stayed in a distant over water bungalow but they supply bikes -very nice touch. Diving was good - guides are very helpful. We had a sunset view (odd numbered rooms) definitely better than the sunrise side. The property has 3 separate 'hotels' on 3 separate islands. Many amenities can be shared which is nice. This gives more options for what are generally limited. Water activity center has many things to choose from. Last three nights stayed at Naladhu which is over the top.

Dear KKent,

Great to read the comment about your recent stay in Anantara Dhigu and Naladhu Maldives.

Thank you very much for your lovely review, which we have shared with our team.

As you know, our 3 properties ( Anantara Dhigu, Anantara Veli and Naladhu ) are just a few steps away from each other, separated by a beautiful lagoon and connected with a pontoon
( taxi boat ), which provides our guest with a range of dining options, leisure activities, white sandy beaches and many other areas to discover.

Indeed, our high-end luxury property Naladhu is well known as a fantastic resort with our personalized housemaster service, an island which offers ultimate privacy!

Surely a great place for small groups celebrating birthdays, honeymoon or wedding anniversaries.

We are all looking forward to welcome you again in one of our properties!

Best regards to Seattle,

We stayed for 5 days in the sunrise over-water villa. And there's absolutely nothing that we can be disappointed at. Maybe just for someone who continuously "steal" our bike, so we have to walk our way back to the villa. We tried each of their restaurants, but the best goes to Baan Hurra @ Veli. Definitely love to be back here again another time. Lesson to learn : stay loooongerr.... ^^

Room Tip: If you want to stay at the water villa, choose the sunset side, since they have wayyyyyy much better...

5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2013

Stayed here for 6 days during the June holidays - we booked two sunrise beach villas and enjoyed ourselves tremendously. I was disappointed that we were not lucky enough to get an upgrade to over water villas but there was nothing the manager could do because we had children with us for the trip.

Prices for food and activities are as expected on the high side given that everything here is imported. But no complains as the quality is top notch and in our views well worth the price tag. The snorkeling and sea sports were amazing. Water and sea life (depending on locations) and weather were mostly great. Most importantly, the service level is excellent. I really can't think of any major issues during the trip as everybody was friendly and always ready to help. Appreciate the attentiveness of the Anantara team and the little surprises (free champagne and wine) that they have showered us during the stay.

Have planned for another trip to Maldives in December 2013 and we were debating if we should visit Veli instead of going to Dhigu again but in the end we decided that we had such a good time in June at Dhigu that we definitely want to go again! Am going to visit for 3 days before Christmas so hopefully we get lucky enough for an upgrade to over water villas this time round (not bringing any child this trip)! In any case, Veli is just a short boat ride away so no issues getting there while staying on Dhigu.

Looking forward to yet another great trip to Dhigu. Would strongly recommend this resort to anyone who wants to enjoy a great trip to Maldives.

Dear Colin T,

Thank you very much for your lovely feedback. We are very happy, that you have enjoyed your stay with us.

Wherever you will stay in coming December ( Anantara Veli or Anantara Dhigu ) we will surprise and WOW you again, rest assured!

You are right, most of the food items are imported which is ( unfortunately ) affecting the prizes in all the resorts on the Maldives.

Part of our ongoing effort is, to add value to all our packages, excursions and accommodation’s, wherever we can in order to balance this.

It’s great to read, that our ‘little moments of surprise’ have enhanced your Anantara experience!

We are looking forward to welcome you and your family in December again!

Warmest regards from the Maldives,

My family stayed at the Dhigu Anantara Resort for five days this week, and I absolutely loved it. I decided to write a review because I thought that people would be interested in what an eleven year old girl thought of the resort. Firstly, the location of our villa, villa #77 was great because it was right near the beach where the water was quite relaxing. However, in this particular area the water is very shallow, so I suggest that if you want water that goes deep quickly, to request for a villa on the side where the reception is located. Another great thing about this resort is that the staff are extraordinarily friendly, and they cater for all needs. One thing that I think is very appealing to many teenagers and kids that come to this resort is the amount of great water sports they offer. I recommend all children and teens to try the underwater rocket, a device that is a lotsmaller than a jet ski, but is about as thrilling. I enjoyed this most because it gives kids a sense of individuality because you get to choose the speed you want to go at, and travel underneath or on top of the water surface. My dad and I also really liked going Scuba Diving near the resort. Participants travel by boat to a really nice area to scuba dive down to 12m in the beginner course after doing a quick practice near the resort. The food at Dhigu is pretty good, but I would say that breakfast is the best. The breakfast food at Dhigu is great for kids because they have healthy fruit, but also waffles, pancakes, and crepes. They also have a wide variety of cereals and granolas, and they have en egg stand, where you can get an egg made up for you. The children's menu for dinner and lunch is really good, and the kids buffet at the aqua is really nice too. If ordering from the adults menu, I recommend the chicken quesadillas (they are amazing, I had them three days in a row!) The Thai restaurant called Baan Huraa is also worth going to, which is located at Veli. My parents have said that when we come back, my mom will bring more of her own magazines, and she will also bring her own decaffeinated coffee. My dad said that we would probably not go to the buffet dinner again because it is extremely overpriced and isn't worth the price. I would definitely go back to the Thai restaurant and the Italian restaurant because they are my favorite. Overall, I would definitely recommend this resort to friends and family because it has great staff, food, and water sports. I would like to thank the following staff for making my stay at the resort the best:
Moon - one of the dive instructors at the water sports center. I thought she was really good because she tends to be very patient and she is a great instructor.
Gness - she works at the Fushi Cafe. Gness is really kind and helped us by telling us the ingredients in some of the foods so we could see what my younger brother could eat because he is allergic to many things.

Room Tip: If traveling with children, ensure that you are staying in a villa either in front of reception or o...

5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2013

We just spend 7 nights with our 4 year old daughter in this lovely resort. Overall we are very satisfied. We travel a lot and stay mostly in 5 star hotels which gives us a bit of ability to compare.

Let's start with the cons:
As stated before by other travelers snorkeling is not great at this resort. If you are a passioned snorkeler you better choose a different island since you have to take the boat tour to the reef which you have to pay for. For us it was not a problem since with a small kid you have other priorities anyhow. There is some very small but nice spots very close to the beach where you can see many smaller coral fishes and which is also ideal for small kids doing their first snorkeling experience. One great spot is around beach villa No. 35 just 20m off the beach.
Another negative point is the high costs for drinks. I will come to costs for food further below, but clearly 10 USD for a beer or for an orange juice is a lot.

Rooms:
We had a beach villa which we clearly prefer over an over-water villa especially with small kids. The villas are very nice, big sleeping room with a day bed for the kid and even space for more child beds if needed. The bathroom is all outside but mostly sheltered with 2 outside showers (one real outside outside the shelter and one under the roof) and a very big bathtub. Design is very nice and high standard. The bath"room" is very big with a small garden with some plants. Nice terrace facing the beach with many plants so nobody can really look inside your room when walking at the beach. All in all very nice villa with plenty of space.
We had a sunrise villa. Sunrise side has more calm water as stated by other travelers already, but also there is less wind which made it almost impossible to stay at that side of island during the day (way to hot). Instead we spent most of the day at the pool since our daughter anyhow preferred playing in the pool. We had room no. 48 which is not an ideal location since its close to the ferry to Veli island which is passing by every some minutes and also the sand was quite rough due to corrals on the beach. Next time we would definitely prefer a sunrise villa somewhere between no. 38 and 25 where the beach is very soft and wide.

Pool
Nice and quite big infinity pool. About 20 double-sunbeds around the pool. Nice is (again for kids) that the pool depth is between 90cm and 160cm which allows even small kids to play in the more shallow part. Only the pool-bar is pretty sad and clearly needs refurbishment.

Food
As stated before by others the Thai restaurant Baan Huraa has very good food and also the setting is very nice. We did eat 4 times there during our stay (also good for lunch). We personally also liked the Terrazo which is Italian. Living close to Italy we typically don't eat Italian when we are in tropical places but this has very good italian food I must say. Especially the deserts is a must-have. Breakfast in Fuushi Cafe is great. It can absolutely compete with other top 5 star hotels around the world. Great selection of fresh fruits, freshly made pancakes, even crepes and waffles, all kind of joghurts, müesli, etc.

Prices
Prices for food is for sure on the expensive side but not completely out-of-range. We typically paid for a dinner including a desert and a beer about USD 60 p.P. both in the Thai as well as in the Italian place (also room service has good food, about the same price). Again this is not cheap but given the difficult infrastructure acceptable. I paid more in the past for the same level of food for example in Manhattan (and with a service level and friendliness which doesn't even get close to the level we experienced at Anantara).

Service
Service is unbeatable. In general service level and friendliness in Asia is from a different planet compared to e.g. the US (which can be a nightmare to be honest). Anantara is no exception. Rooms get cleaned twice a day without any problem, staff is always very friendly and helpful. When arriving at the airport they have a nice welcome lounge while waiting for the speed-boat transfer. WiFi is free of charge but not very fast and connection breaks up quite often.

Kids
This resort does a lot for kids. For example they have a separate kids menu which is free of charge for kids below 6. Also on Aqua bar they have a kids lunch buffet for free. Staff is always very friendly to kids. Kids club also seems to be great but we didn't use it, so hard for us to judge it.

Spa
Spa is top like in most other resorts of this class. Also here about USD 100 for a 60 minute massage is in line with international prices at many other places.

All-in-all a very nice resort which we definitely would choose again when getting back to Maledives. Yes, there is more exclusive resorts out there but which also comes with higher prices. So value-for-money is fair at Anantara. And one of the best resorts if you have kids.

Room Tip: All villas are great. Sunrise side can get hot during the day since there is less wind but beach is...

Dear Frank,

Thank you very much for your feedback about your stay at Anantara Dhigu. We are delighted, that you had a great holiday with us.

Indeed, our Thai restaurant ‘Baan Huraa’ is our signature restaurant and mostly receives very good comments about the service, the wide range of selection as well as the food quality.

The items, offered at our breakfast buffet are hand selected, as we want our guests to have a fantastic and healthy start of the day!

Those high quality food and beverage items have to be imported ( via airfreight ) from all over the world, which is ( unfortunately ) influencing the prize range in all the Maldivian resorts.

We at Anantara Maldives are always trying to add value like quality, personalized service and individual attention to the food & beverage experience for our guests.

All of us are looking forward to welcome you and your family again in our resort. Our water sport team would be also delighted, to show you some snorkeling spots, as we have many finger corals in the lagoon, right in front of our sister resort ( Anantara Veli ). As you know, this resort is just a few steps away.

We are sending sunny greetings to you and your family.

Thank you once again for your comments, which we have already shared with our team.

Had a great holiday and really enjoyed. Staff did everything to make us comfortable and were excellent. With children the kids club was excellent. A great surf break right off the front of the resort you could not ask for more in terms of water sports. It has everything.

Dear JOSHUA h,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience at Anantara Dhigu.

Indeed, our kids club is a great place for the little ones, while the parents are discovering various activities, like surfing, snorkeling, cooking classes or diving at the most spectacular spots on the Maldives.

As you know, we have many other family activities like Dolphin Quest with our Watersports team, Sunset fishing or a trip to another island, inhabited by Maldivian families.

Each Anantara Resort draws its strength from the rich cultural traditions, historic heritage and natural beauty of its destination. As such, every experience is a unique voyage of discovery and inspiration that is distinctly Anantara.

We agree, everything is here to create memorable moments for couples, exciting activities for the kids and pure relaxation!

See you soon again and warmest regards from the Maldives,
