“Wheatsheaf appears to be closed.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2012

Following the comments on this site I went to the Wheatsheaf on the 21st August 2012 and it was closed with a notice in the front door saying good bye.

Shame really as it seemed so good in the reports.

“Really good pub, would highly recommend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2012

We went to this lovely country pub because it was recommended on this site and we weren't at all disappointed. The pub is in a lovely, quiet location with a nice garden to sit in. Inside has been decorated warmly, it feels rustic and clean with some nice finishing touches such as local pictures on the walls and a shelf full of books for children to read. The staff were very welcoming, friendly and attentive. The menu was simple with something for everyone and the main thing is that it was proper home cooking, excellent flavours, the rib eye steak was really tasty and reasonably priced and good portion sizes. We loved the fact that the children's menu also had good food, plenty of choice and included roasts and salads.

“Superb.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2012

About time to. This pub is all a country pub should be. Quiet, well groomed garden. Friendly non uniformed non corporate staff. And fresh food which is hard to get in the big chains. If you are after high end dining, then you need to pay high end dining prices at a posh restaurant in town. If you are after wholesome food, and good sustenance then this is the place. The food is well presented and very tasty and very good value for money. My only concern is, if the current landlord moves on, will it change again? This is just right. Beer is good, Peroni expensive @ £4.50 per pint but that's the brewers fault, not the landlord!!! A good Husband -Wife partnership ensures a family feel and I am more than comfortable when having a drink at this establishment. I hope this helps. Ian the Pie man

“Not the same thing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2012

Well folks, it falls to me to re-review the Wheatsheaf after a recent visit found it to be a poor shadow of its former self. The pub had been closed down for a while and is now in the hands of temporary staff who have been brought in to make the pub function again at some basic level in the hope that it will be bought. In fairness what they are offering they are doing a reasonable job of delivering however please go forewarned, this is not the high end dinning experience it once was. It is a much reduced menu and much of it is the same old thing you can get anywhere. Okay if that is what you are after. It is my fond hope that someone will buy this gorgeous pub in its beautiful location and restore it to its former glory, but for now it remains on our stunning location but nothing special in terms of dinning experience list of places to go. I hope that that helps. Will keep you posted if new owners arrive. :-)

“New owners - don't be worried”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2012 via mobile

Proper simple pub menu with emphasis on quality and home cooking. Bangers and mash with peas and gravy was first class as was leak and potato soup and chicken liver and brandy pate. Good beer, great service and a nice clean bar.
