We decided to bypass the interstate route from Houston to New Orleans and travel a more scenic route for a change. With two teens on board, it was challenging to find things to do that would fit all of our interests. As a native Cajun, I wanted to show them the noble country side of my family's heritage (not as shown on currently popular TV 'reality' shows). One item to include was a swamp tour of a beautiful spot in deep Cajun country. The Champagnes store and tour was absolutely perfect. It was a not-to-hot late afternoon with a spectacular sunset. The boat was small enough to get through tight places to take us up close to nature (including water lilies, an alligator, and even an old alligator nest with hatched eggshells). Our guide was a true bayou man who clearly had tremendous knowledge - and love - of the environment. I captured some iconic photos of the sunset that I shall be framing. The kids were enthralled (as were we).
