If, infact, Des Amis was sold, whoever sold it PLEASE buy it back or provide consulting services! We used to so enjoy this restaurant. One could always count on gourmet quality food. My how our last and I emphasize last visit was DEPLORABLE. The establishment is located in the downtown historical district. We dined on a Saturday afternoon, approx 2pm. We arrived and were asked to wait a for the waitress to clean a table. It was 15 minutes...and half of the tables were open. This is not a large restaurant...approx 20 tables. The waitress proceeded to take orders from tables and ring up checks as we waited....again 15 minutes. The only reason we waited as we did was due to our familiarity with the food. OK, now we were seated. Two waitresses for 20 tables. After seating we waited patiently for our tea....at least another 10 minutes. Finally tea and we placed our order. We ordered an appetizer of crawfish cornbread and our entrees at the same time. One hour later after we were seated, my husband asked the waitress to check on our order suspecting that it may be ready and sitting under a heat lamp in the kitchen. Meanwhile our tea glasses remained empty....mind you an hour. Sure enough after inquiring about our order, the waitress bring our order out. My crawfish enchilada was burt...either from sitting under the heat lamp or just unattended in the oven. My husbands's crawfish etoufee had maybe 6 to 8 small crawfish for $24 + $1 for something according to our bill. I asked the waitress to take my burnt crawfish enchilada away, and she told me that she told the "chef" not to serve it because it was burnt....but obviously he did not listen. So to somehow make our experience right she told me that she would take the enchilada off of our bill...along with the $3 tea. She did...she also took off the crawfish cornbread appetizer that we never saw!....that was only once it pointed that out to her. $3 Tea??? Really. So after 1 hour of waiting for our meal we left very disappointed. Only then did we check reviews on tripadvisor to find that THINGS AT CAFE DES AMIS HAVE CHANGED! A waste of our time and money. We drove 1 hr and 15 minutes on a Saturday afternoon to enjoy this particular restaurant based on our previous experiences. We now know not to rely on our past experiences in selecting a restaurant. We usually check tripadvisor before dining ,or choosing a hotel...lesson learned. Head our warning ...check reviews. Bottom line for the restaurant if you care to read reviews...our past visits to your restaurant our bill rang up over $100 each visit...this visit would have also...instead it received a return of a meal, a $24 gross bill, and the loss of our patronage, .my husband even left a 10% tip...I would not have.
