“disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2011

This place came very highly recommended, but we were disappointed. First of all it was uncommonly cold during our stay and the place just isn't equipped to handle that. Our room was switched to one with better insulation and a larger heater, but it was still cold and drafty. Then, the water did not turn on right away and we were scared that we might not have water at all (it ended up being turned on later). The room was clean enough, but a bit dingy. The only positive point of the experience was the friendly owners and the delicious food. Perhaps the place is more charming in the spring/summer/fall, but avoid it during the winter because it made for an unpleasant first night on our anniversary trip! Also, the website makes it seem like it is secluded on a the Bayou Teche, but it's right off the main street and there is a bar just across the bayou from the cabins - not at all what I was expecting.

The cabins each have a verandah over the bayou, which is lovely. But the site is right next to a busy road so don't expect seclusion and peace. What you do get though, more than makes up for that. Rocky and Lisa are great hosts. On arrival (or whenever you want it) they give you a Cajun Platter of boudin, cracklin' and Hogshead Cheese, all made by them.

The cabins are very rustic. They do however have air conditioning and a TV and coffee maker. The bed is very small and that's partly why I slept so badly. If you must have kingsize then be wary.

We walked to Mulate's restaurant on Rocky's recommendation. Watching the seniors do the Cajun two step was fun, and the band were good. Might have been nice if you felt you could get up and dance without knowing the steps though. The food was average, but overall recommended.

Best of all about the stay was that when we couldn't get booked into a swamp tour, Lisa took us out on their boat. It was lovely and made our day.

The site is lovely and quirky - just my kind of thing. Just don't expect luxury. Look out for the squirrel swing feeder.

We had an amazing time here. I think its awful anyone can give this place a bad review. We have been traveling through America for over 3 months and this is the nicest place we've come across so far. The owners are such trusting, kind people. When we got there the shop was closed (closed mon/tue) so we rang the number and they gave us a cabin and told us where to find the key and told us to leave the money under the pillow. How trusting do you have to be to do that? We LOVED the room, so cute and homely. We actually met the owners later on and they fed us some crawfish that they were making for a commercial being filmed there and let us join in even though we were just strangers to them. So we met their nice friends, nice locals and ate crawfish and had a lovely time. Would you ever get that anywhere else? If we didn't have to travel off we would happily have spent 2 weeks here just relaxing. Coming from someone who usually is hard to please, I'm saying you will not regret having a holiday here. Enjoy.

This place is close to Atchafalaya swamp tours. I liked the place and the owner. We stayed in a cabin with a private deck out front. The breeze was nice. The place has atmosphere. The next morning I enjoyed my first authentic Cajun breakfast. I had cracklings, egg, Boudin sausage and hog's head cheese. What a pleasant experience. I wish that I could have stayed longer.

I'm still trying to make up my mind if these cabins are worth the price. We're quite used to rustic, and the bayou-side location and deck to sit out in the evening with a glass of wine are great. There are strange things, too: the electrical outlets are all in the ceiling, and the bed pushed against the wall made it hard to get in and out. There wasn't a particularly comfortable place to sit and read or watch TV, but it was fun anyhow. The owners are delightful people, and their boudin is to die for.

The weird thing is, if I am ever in Breaux Bridge again I would probably stay here - even though I think it is a bit overpriced. But if you have a low tolerance for rustic and unusual, find yourself another spot.

We stayed a Sunday and Monday night at the end of September and had the place to ourselves-literally. The owners take off from 3 pm Sunday to Wednesday at 7 a.m. and just say "Have fun!" For $70 per night, we shared a cosy bedroom cabin with a shower and a back deck looking over Bayou Teche. It was quaint in decor (we stayed in Miss Elise's Cabin- #2) done up in antiques etc. My only complaint would be that the property management should do a little antique inspection and repair from time to time. The bureau had one functioning drawer and that had junk in in (Miss Elise"s?) so I had to do some moving around of stuff to find one drawer we could unpack into. I never could get the armoire's door unstuck.
Having said that, the place was perfect for us. Although just off one of the main routes to Lafayette, it felt a world away. The bed was comfy, there was an ice chest for our use on the deck, as well as a common bbq grill and swings etc. It was charming and we would stay there again absolutely. I am sure it would be a bustling place during the Crawfish Festival in Breaux Bridge in May
Breaux Bridge is perfectly positioned to go exploring in every direction in Cajun Country. Make sure you go to Mulates for dinner- just up the road, live music, great value. Crazy about Crawfish is where the locals eat and is great. Next time we will go for a Saturday night when the dance halls or "la las" are up and hopping.

The food was great, owners were friendly and fun! Yes, the cabins are rustic but I wouldn't have been happy anywhere else.
