We stayed at the Maison des Amis for two nights on 29th and 30th May 05. We had room number 1 (of the 4 rooms) which is at the front of the house. The room was absolutely lovely, complete with stripped floorboards, half tester bed, antique furniture and roll top bath.
The house itself was completely renovated a few years ago and is typical creole clapboard style, complete with large garden and gazebo overlooking the Bayou. A word of warning - if you sit on one of the rocking chairs on the gazebo, I swear you will never leave - I ended up watching the squirrels on the opposite bank and the terrapins in the bayou for ages - I still don't know where the time went.
There is a fridge stocked up with complementary soft drinks and breakfast is provided by the renowned Cafe des Amis, just round the corner.
We were lucky enough to meet the owner, who was down from Washington DC and she set us up with a swamp tour on Lake Martin, with Mr Leblanc - this ended up being one of the highlights of the trip and I would recommend this to anyone else in the area.
Maison des Amis was an enchanting place to stay - exactly what we were looking for and I can't praise it highly enough
