“Attractive, but paper thin walls”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2010

I'll start by saying that the place has an overall neat and new appearance, and the staff was friendly. I genuinely hate to leave a poor review, but you need to know and decide for yourself if the problems I encountered would bother you. The problems were primarily the paper thin walls and careless housekeeping. Frequent water running and toilet flushing next door sounded as if it was in our own room. I could clearly hear and understand the cleaning ladies in the the adjacent room prattling on and on, discussing exactly how many mg of vitamin C is best (1,000 vs 500) at 7:00 in the morning. I assume that one of those two ladies is the one who had left the long, wavy black hair on my towels. There was also a piece of black plastic the size of my thumb on the pale blue sofa when we got to the room. How does the cleaning staff miss something so obvious? The king bed in our room faced directly toward the 6' wide opening to the vanity area of the bathroom, and there is no door there. So if you need to brush your teeth or wash your hands while your spouse is sleeping, there is no way to keep from disturbing them. The back-lit round mirror with diffuse lighting in the bathroom is cool but too dim for applying makeup. The rooms seem to have been constructed and decorated for visual appearance without consideration that people need to SLEEP there. I would ask about the room layout before booking a room in case there are rooms that don't have the wide open bathroom vanity. You could bring earplugs or a sound-soother machine to mask the noise through the thin walls.

The room was very comfortable and spacious. It was nice to be close to the casino but not attached to it. I think it saved me lots of money haha. The breakfast they had in the morning was goo and very filling. The only thing I didn't like was the space they had available to everyone to sit was small and couldn't handle all the people that wanted to eat. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. It was also kind of fun to have our window face the racetrack.

Maybe 'cause we are in our 50's, felt like the room was way too different for our taste. The lighting was HORRIBLE.....the so-called ergonomic chair made my back go into a spasm....Couldn't see to put on my makeup.....

Shower was good and lots of hot water and it had a wonderful massager.

Pros: You can walk to Louisiana Downs without worrying about parking your car there far away.....weather was chilly over the weekend, but still a pleasant and safe walk.

Wish there were two end tables by the bed.....only one.....

Staff was pleasant.
Breakfast was good.....didn't eat the scrambled eggs although they looked good. not sure if they were "real" or "powdered".

Coffee GOOD!!

Okay first off this Marriot is new and shiny but lil things like the soap tray in the shower is already broken off and the bathroom mirror light couldn't illuminate a flea. Real bad for the ladies ;) The remote needed fresh batteries.

But the kicker is if you have drunk neighbors who come in late lets say at 230am. Dont forget this is the casino patrons hotel also so they will be coming and going 24/7. You WILL hear them making a ruckus through the paper thin walls and coughing etc, if you don't first hear them coming down the hall singing. It gets better as the morning cleaning staff will be "chatting it up" (i am being real nice here to what i really want to say) REAL loud at 730 a.m. Evidently they are fully unaware of the way noise seems to travel in this building. But hey it was better then my other stay when some young obviously not right girl was out in the hallway crying all night banging on a door.

Which is my point this place is noisy full stop as the doors go KA BANG every time they are closed. Just have a walk down the hallway and you can hear TV's blaring (or are they?) and folks talking in their rooms no problem.

But if your lucky enough to be getting Harrahs discount rate it does ease the pain quite a bit. But again this isn't suppose to be a motel 6 experience either.

My husband and I stayed here while I was on a business trip. I had been to the Shreveport/Bossier City area before and finding a good place to stay in a decent area is a shot in the dark. The Springhill Suites at Louisiana Downs was a great choice! The king suite was an awesome room and our windows overlooked the horse track. The hotel is new and well maintained. I was also very happy with the ample supply of items during the free breakfast each morning.
I would definitely recommend this hotel over one in neighboring Shreveport.

When we walked into this hotel I was amazed. It was super clean, spacious, and looked new to me. The decor was very modern and had a tranquil feel to it. And although it is located next to Harrah's and Louisiana downs the hotel itself is incredibly quiet. The front desk clerk was professional, and our check in was fast. There is an area at the ck-in desk that has everything from frozen pizzas, mac n cheese, to drinks that you can purchase if you need a little snack. The room was an A+. Spacious, clean, and much more than I expected. Two large closets and a nice kitchenette area w/frige, sink, ice bucket/glasses/& coffee pot, etc. There was also a nice microwave w/plates/plasticware. Breakfast in the a.m. is nice as well. Everything from coffee, eggs, sausage, danish, waffles, cereal, juice, etc. Pool was clean and nice as well. I was only there for the night but should I return to Bossier City I will Definately stay here again!
