“Great downtown location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

This is a boutique hotel without the boutique price. The property sparkled, the rooms were compact and clean and the large bathrooms were luxurious. There are even free bicycles in the lobby for guests who want to tour downtown! Never got the free WiFi to work, though it could have been the iPhones and iPads we were using.

To me, valet parking was a negative--I would rather spend the $16/day on something else. There is a self-parking available nearby, but don't expect to get your car if you need it before 8 a.m.

When we came to breakfast one morning, we were outnumbered by kitchen staff sitting in the restaurant, leaving us with the impression we were interrupting something. Being asked, "May I help you?" rather than "Would you prefer a table by the window?" confirmed that.

There are a number of restaurants nearby if you choose to venture out instead.

i loved this hotel! The staff is Wonderful. I will be back. I stayed here for an extended stay and the staff made me feel like this was a home away from home. I was always greeted with a smile and everyone was helpful every day. Baton Rouge is a beautiful little town, and the hotel is located within walking distance of the sights. The lobby bar is comfortable and the bartenders, Ken and Morgan are the best in the city! I can't wait to go back to visit the family!

The hotel is in a great location but the rooms are very small. I asked for anything bigger several times and was told repeatedly that it was a historic property and all the rooms were that small. In comparison the Hilton across the street they have small rooms as well. The concrete column directly beside the bed made getting out on that side impossible. The decor was nice and the lobby area was also nice. The chair in the room was armless and not appealing. To watch TV at night I had to sit in bed which for me is uncomfortable. I might would stay again for 1 or two nights but a week was too long with no more space than the rooms have. Also they only have valet parking.

I booked a room at hotel indigo over a week in advance. I booked straight through the hotel's website which states that if you have to cancel you forfeit your deposit. Ok, sounds fair. The problem lies in the fact that they never revealed how much the deposit would be or offered any other option than to pay for the room in full. I go ahead and pay in full. The hotel sends me an email 3 nights before my stay reminding me of the booked room and once again offers a cancellation with forfeiture of deposit. Our babysitter unfortunately became ill so I had no choice but to call and cancel the reservation. The front desk informed me that a cancellation would result in losing 100% of the amount I paid for the room. When I ask why they were so misleading on their website about the cancellation policy she could not give me a straight answer and refused to refund me a penny. I never had this problem with the Hilton across the street (which is very nice and has a wonderful staff). Guess where I'll be staying next time.

Dear Adam M,

Thank you for taking the time to complete a review on your stay. We are sorry we fell below your expectations. We have recently implemented a new pricing structure that allows us the opportunity to offer deeper discounts to our customers. In order to offer these rates we must attach restrictions such as cancellation fees or full prepayment. Some of our lowest discounted rates carry full prepayment requirements while others carry a cancellation fee. It is certainly not our intent to inconvenience our valued customers, but to instead offer options that make sense. We always appreciate comments from our guests, and we will use this feedback in making decisions about our future pricing strategies.

Once again many thanks for your feedback.

Sincerely,

Janice A

The location was beautiful. The staff were friendly, and very attentive. The bartender, Morgan, is fantastic. We were only planning on staying one night, but loved it so much we stayed another night. If we are ever here again we will be staying here.

I was dubious about this place even after reading other reviews, but I was wrong. OUTSTANDING for a city five times the size of Baton Rouge, but to find this gem in a city of really mediocre hotels was a fabulous surprise. With an almost scandinavian feel, i found no flaws in the room, the service or the location. Well worth the very modest cost and one of the top five stays of the year.

Our stay at the Hotel Indigo was like a first date where everything went perfectly! The location, staff, service, food, bar, room, style, value...the list goes on and on. This is what would normally be considered a 3/4 star property, but someone forgot to tell the ownership, management and staff at the Hotel Indigo, BR. Without a doubt, this was my best hotel experience of the past 4-5 years.

The LSU/Alabama game was held the weekend we were there and B.R. was absolute pandemonium. It would have been the perfect time for excuses, poor service etc. But the entire staff of the Hotel Indigo were front and center at the top of their game including the hotel manager. These guys have set a new standard in my mind as to how well a hotel can be operated.

Room Tip: If you have a specific preference for room type, location, etc., make a note of it in your reservati...
