“don't miss this”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

This is not a large historical village experience, but the displays are valuable and the narrators/enactors are friendly and a font of knowledge.

Thank you very much for your comments regarding our site. The interpreters are all Acadians, who have their own stories to tell, and this makes it more authentic.

“A great attraction!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

The village was one of the highlights of our trip to Nova Scotia. We spent a morning here learning about the Acadien way of life. The Nova Scotia museum has done a brilliant job bringing history to life. We tasted rappie pie, talked to the blacksmith and watched him at work, saw a fisherman mending nets and just really enjoyed talking to everyone about their lives. It was a fascinating glimpse into a way of life that our grandparents might have lived. An absolute must is the cafe - it is priced well and offers delicious food. We ate more rappie pie and shared a homemade blueberry pie made with wild blueberries. I could fly across the country again just for that.

Thank you very much for all the wonderful comments regarding your visit to our site. The staff are all Acadians, with a lot of pride in their history, and enjoy sharing this with the visitors. Food is also part of our culture and we serve various dishes in our café that reflect this aspect of our history.

“A Real Treat!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2012

We went on a lovely summer day; the view across the water was beautiful, the short trail around the museum was lovely (a few mosquitos, wear some bug juice), and the interpreters in the buildings were knowledgeable and so enthusiastic! Most of them are related to people who had lived in these houses (which have been moved here from nearby towns to replicate Acadian life in the early 1900s), and have great stories. Watching them bake and build dories was fun. And there are lots of picnic tables around, so if it's a nice day, pack your lunch, wear your bug spray and ENJOY!!! Well worth the price (which isn't much--we had the Nova Scotian museum pass so we will be back).

The interpretive staff in the buildings are friendly and very informative. A lovely setting, and worth walking around the nature trail as well as the historical buildings.
