Owner description: Birthplace of Loretta Lynn. When Loretta Lynn belted, "Well, I was born a coal miner's daughter/In a cabin on a hill in Butcher Hollow," it not only skyrockted "The Queen of Country Music" to additional fame outside the realm of country music fans, but it merited her the everlasting respect of every person connected directly or indirectly with coal mining or mountain life. Visit Butcher Hollow, located in scenic Johnson County. Loretta's brother, Herman Webb, is curator of the Butcher Hollow Home.

“Worth the time!”

Loved meeting with Loretta Lynn's brother. He would have talked all day....if we had the time! Well worth the drive there and the $5.00 admission. :)

“Small shack”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

Loretta's brother runs the tours thru her old homeplace. He depends upon the ticket sales for the upkeep of the house. When I went there was one other family in front of me,but not many. Her brother is very nice and will answer any of your questions you may have.

“A piece of country music history..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2012 via mobile

If youre a fan of loretta lynn or of country music...this is a trip for you. We went to visit this spot and was a bit difficult to find. The gps kept taking us to a different location. Once we found our way...we stopped at the convenient store to get further instructions. Found out the butcher holler signs were nowhere to be seen because they kept getting stole. We were instructed to go on up to the house where lorettas brother would be there giving the tour. What an amazing bonus. He guided us thru the house giving us not only a glimpse of what life was like for them back as kids but also telling us stories. AMAZING. I would recommend this to any loretta fan. A must see.

“Great trip!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2012

When I was younger, my dad worked for a tree trimming company and came in talking about meeting Loretta Lynn's brother and how nice he was. That weekend we went to Van Lear to Butcher Holler and got to meet Loretta Lynn's brother, Herman Webb, who runs the General Store right down the road. He is so nice and easy to talk to. He took us up to the Old Homeplace and showed us around. If you have a chance go say hello to Mr. Webb and see the old fashioned General Store as well as the homeplace.

“Nothing spectacular”

If you were raised in eastern ky., this house is like most of the ones people grew up in. If you came from places off from here, you might like it.
