“Napa Valley Kentucky Style”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2013

My fiance and I stayed here in mid October with a deal we had gotten on groupon. The deal was for a two night stay, a tour of the winery, and a cheese plate. Breakfast is also included in their rates. The first night we stayed in Estate Room #2. I was very impressed with the room upon check in, there is an alarm clock which you can put an ipod into to play music, the bed was comfy and the shower was huge. The room was very clean. A suggestion would be to add additional towel bars to the room since there is only one. Everything was great until it was time to go to bed, this room is very close to the road, you are far out in the country, but it is a decently traveled road so we did hear road traffic at night which kept me up. Also the heating unit can get quite noisy kicking on and off. Due to the noise, we requested to stay in a different room on our second night. They moved us to Estate Room 6, the view is better, but the layout of the room seems a little smaller. The shower is still a decent size, but it was only maybe a third the size of the other shower. This room was much quieter and we did not hear road traffic. The ceiling fan could use a little tightening, it was kind of noisy. Also, the flap off the freezer in the mini fridge is broken, due to this, the food we had on the top shelf in the fridge froze. This room is by the ice cooler and pop machine, which wasn't used much so it was not a problem for us. We could hear through the Estate room walls somewhat (we could hear people walking across the floor and moving furniture).

The cheese plate they gave us was really good, but they could serve food on better dinnerware. All meals we had were served with plastic ware and black Styrofoam plates. So yes, the plastic knife snapped while cutting the cheese. Breakfast was good, just the basics, cereal, oatmeal, bagels, bananas, yogurt, waffles, and quiche with drink choices of coffee, tea, and Orange juice. We only ate at the winery one day for lunch, we had soup and grilled cheese. It was just ok. The menu mainly consists of sandwiches and pizza. The other days we had just brought coolers with us and ate in our room. The rooms have mini fridges in them.

In the pictures of the groupon deal we bought there was a picture of Tazo tea, coffee mugs, and a coffee press. However, this is not what is in the rooms. Tazo tea is not provided in the rooms nor is it provided at breakfast. The rooms had a coffee pot and wine glasses. However, when we first arrived we only had one wine glass in the room but were able to get an additional glass from the winery to take back to our room.

We also did wine tastings while we were there. Although they have a decent assortment, It seemed like they were constantly running out of certain wines. Before our trip, we saw online that they had fruit wines, but when we got there they were all out of them. They ran out of a few other wines right as we had arrived. I wasn't a fan of any of the wines I had sampled because I usually drink fruit wines. They do sell a few types of beers as well.

Entertainment wise, there isn't alot of it here. We stayed on a week day so there wasn't really anything going on, sometimes they have concerts on the weekends though. You can go to the shooting range which is also on site. We spent our time going back and forth from the winery, walking through the vineyard and tasting the grapes, the winery tour, and spent time relaxing. It was good for what we were looking for in a trip.

The staff was all friendly and helpful. If we had a problem, they took care of it.

Room Tip: If staying in the Estate rooms, stay in rooms 4-6, they are much quieter since they don't face t...

My husband and I spent a night at the Lodge portion of Elk Creek, staying in the master suite. The room was wonderful with a large bathroom, gas fireplace, and large deck. Our only complaint is that there isn't any sound proofing and you can hear people walking in the room above. Fortunately, they were an older couple who retired early. Also, know that if you stay in the master suite, you are close to the front door of the lodge and you can hear clearly everyone's coming and going.
At the present time, the only food available is the cafe which is nice for lunch but disappointing for dinner. There are two family-run restaurants nearby which we were told are good places to eat but unfortunately, they are closed on Wednesday which is the night we stayed there.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay. The room was very comfortable and clean and the scenery beautiful. It was a very nice overnight getaway.

My husband brought me here for our anniversary. Estate rooms and lodge rooms were all very nice and the dining scenery was incredible! I recommend this place very much. Only negative is the winding roads to get there made me a little sick but well worth the relaxation and views.

We stayed at The Lodge and enjoyed the beautiful views and great service. There was a problem with our first room and Vickie took care of us and was very apologetic even though it was something that she could not have prevented. We really enjoyed the Winery and customer service was superb, especially Felecia and Becky!!! We will return and recommend to our friends. I believe the fall timeframe would be a great time to visit.

Room Tip: If traveling there during hot weather, ask about air conditioning!

We had a small (10 people) corporate 2 day meeting at the lodge and really enjoyed it. The lodge is comfortable and reasonably clean and the winery restaurant is above average. I wouldn't recommend the food at the Hunt Club although we had a great time shooting sporting clays. The grounds are nice and the location is definitely country. The only complaint was the air conditioning...inadequate for the one hot day we had.

We stayed in the Estates at Elk Creek and had a great time. The view is amazing - quiet and peaceful. The 1st night was a Sunday and we had the place to ourselves except for one other couple. Next night was full - but still quiet enough and enjoyed a fire in the fire pit. The winery is beautiful and offer some very tasty wines - breakfast there was typical continental breakfast. People were very nice to deal with. We will definitely return for another getaway soon.

We used the Groupon deal for one night at the Lodge. The Winery itself wasn't too hard to find but the Lodge isn't clearly marked from the road. You'll want to use the same driveway as the Hunt Club. First off, the scenery is beautiful here. And the Winery has a nice charm to it. We went on a Monday afternoon so there weren't many people there. But the person running the wine tastings was very nice, attentive, and knowledgeable. Some wines were good and some were just okay. Nothing too memorable. It would be nice if they waived the tasting fee if you purchases some bottles. The winery closes at 7pm and food options are limited in the area, so we picked up a few things from the Winery's deli (which closes at 6) before we went to our room in the Lodge for the night.

As for the Lodge, it is mostly made of wood and sound travels throughout pretty easily, which meant you could hear people talking downstairs. Though after nighttime everyone seemed to be quiet so the noise didn't affect us. Though if a loud group came in it might be a problem. There's a finished basement with a big screen TV and a run-down pool table. The room was pleasant, the bed was very comfortable, and everything was clean. However for breakfast you have to go back to the winery (a short 1 minute drive or 10 minute walk down and up a very steep valley). On our visit the person who was supposed to prepare breakfast never showed up, so we never got our breakfast. Eventually the manager came down to explain the situation and apologize and have someone start breakfast, but we had to leave for our next destination. Also there are no employees on site after 7pm or before 10am as far as I can tell. This place has a lot of potential but lodging seems to be more of an afterthought for them. A few improvements on their hospitality skills and this place would be a great overnight destination.
