I spent a lovely 4th of July weekend at King Pacific Lodge with my girlfriend. To say that this is a unique and spectacular place barely does it justice. The hotel was recommended to me by a friend, and I was skeptical at first. From the moment we were greeted by the King Pacific staff at the Fairmont hotel in Vancouver, however, I could see why I had heard such rave reviews.
From beginning to end, the service was first rate. Everything was professional, and first class. Sure, we had to squeeze into a Grumman seaplane to get there, but this was an outdoor adventure after all. The lodge itself was spectacular. The rooms on this floating barge rival any high end hotel on land. There was a nice recreation room, a great spa, although the excercise equipmnent was a little sparse, but I got plenty of excercise outdoors which is what I was here for to begin with.
The guides were first rate and the activities plentiful. On our first day we saw a pair of humpback whales bubble-net fishing right next to our boat while we were busy catching salmon. The salmon catches were plentiful too! There was fly-fishing, nature hikes, kayaking, animal viewing, and the hotel's helicopter was always ready to take us some place new to explore. On most activities we were the only people within miles. Truly amazing.
Let me not forget the best part, though: The food! I'm not sure how they managed to pull it off with a small kitchen, staff and limited supplies, but every single meal rivaled the best restaurants in the World in quality and presentation. Add to that a nice selection of spirits and great wines, as well as top nothc service, and it was truly incredible!!!
Yes it is a little pricey, but keep in mind that food & beverage, all transportation from Vancouver, and all activities are included in the price. The food alone would cost a fortune anywhere else.
Bottom line, if you enjoy a quiet, beautiful, outdor experience as well as luxury accomodations, King Pacific Lodge is the place for you. You will definitely want to come back again.
