We stay at this place every year on our trip from Columbus, Ohio to various Kentucky state parks. We've never been disappointed but we were especially surprised, pleasantly, this year. We reserved a room several months in advance, as is our practice, but all the river view rooms (the place is right on the river with a great view) were booked because of an event going on in town. Apparently someone who reserved a river-view suite cancelled at the last minute and we were up-graded into it at no additional cost. The suite had one bedroom and another full room. There were two televisions, plus a full and a half bath.

All the hotel's rooms seem to be almost overly lavish, or maybe even a trifle gaudy. But afterall, it is the French Quarter, however everything is neat and clean. The bed was very comfortable. I think each room has its own "jacuzzi" which is really an oversized bathtub with bubbling jets under the water line. The establishment has a restaurant that serves a buffet breakfast. It's nothing remarkable but nice enough. There's also a bar on the gound floor but I've only seen it open once or twice. That's okay. Other things more than make up for it.

  • Liked — Great room with great view.
  • Disliked — Not an overabudance of parking. A brief wait at the front desk for check-in.

We spent one night at the Inn (Sept 18th '05) and it was such a nice surprise! The rooms are painted yellow with a border at the top in maroon. The yellow bathroom towels and washclothes were also yellow and thick which was a nice change from the usual blah white. The sheets were a very light blue and the pillows were nice and comfy. The room was a nice size with a microwave. The country breakfast buffet was from 6am til 10am...nice time frame for us. The biscuits and gravy were the best we've ever had at any buffet. There were also pancakes, fruit, bagels and the like and all for $6.95 which we thought was a bargain. You could have breakfast outside overlooking the Ohio River. The Inn is located downtown and you can have a room with the Ohio River view.

This hotel is located downtown, which is where anyone vacationing or on a pleasure trip would want to be. It is not luxurious, but the rooms are nice.

The restaurant can be good, but the dining room just isn't very comfortable. But it does feature a patio where you can eat while looking at the river and the Maysville bridge, which was a model for the Golden Gate Bridge. There is also a bar downstairs.

Down the street is a lively pub, and about eight blocks west is Caproni's Restaurant, which can be very good. There is an off-track horse betting parlor nearby, but it has only limited fun value.

On the downside, sometimes the rooms have a heavy perfume smell, which is undesireable. Also, the window-type air conditioners have a thermostat that turns them off as soon as the temperature reaches 74 degrees or thereabouts. I've found the rooms to be uncomfortably hot in the middle of the night. If you complain they might send a man up to remove the offending screw from the thermostat.

I like a cold hotel room, and the heat might not bother everyone. When I have to stay in a Maysville hotel, this is the one.
