Stayed at the Days Inn in late May while attending a friends wedding. There aren't many hotel options in Madisonville, so we figured we'd save a few dollars and choose Days Inn which offered rooms at about $15 less than other hotels in the area.
Mistake! The hotel is old and dirty. At check-in, I spotted a large roach-like bug scurrying across the hotels dingy Days Inn mat. (Note to Days Inn: it is time to replace the dirty mat!) To be fair, it was raining outside and could have been coaxed inside by all the foot-traffic from the drunken party-goers attending the hotel bar/club, Bully's. This bar is apparently a local hot spot because of the relative lack of bar scenes in Madisonville. It was a little unnerving being watched at check-in by all of the bars patrons lounging in the hotel lobby. It was nice to see at least one security guard in the lobby area, and he was able to stamp out the unwelcome critter, but still not my ideal place to be checking in.
We stayed in a room on the first floor, and the latch above the lock was loose and ineffective. I was uncomfortable the entire night imagining all the possible ways someone from the bar could get into our room. Needless to say, we woke up just fine the next day. I alerted the front desk about the faulty latch when checking out, and they seemed to truly take note with a desire to fix the problem. Who knows, maybe they did!
Other annoyances: The walls were thin and we could hear other hotel guests clearly as they exited their rooms and talked loudly on cell phones. The shower was awful; shower heads were very short and I had to bend over to wash my hair. Further, the hot water oscillated between hot and cold throughout the entire shower.
Overall, we had a place to sleep, but I will definitely never stay here again. If you are looking for a place to stay in Madisonville, pay the extra money and choose the Holiday Inn Express or the brand new Hampton Inn. I wish I had!
