“Old, tired and noisy”

This isn't a BAD hotel; it is just old and tired. Smallest bathroom I have ever seen. My husband had to get out of the bathroom if I wanted to get in to get a kleenex or he had to get it! Tiny! Not enough light in the bathroom. The room faced an ordinary street yet I have never heard so much noise in my life. I think we heard every car out there. Did not help when the fire alarm was pulled about 10pm and several fire engines arrived only to depart one by one within a half hour. The pool was crowded to the gills with two groups of Black youngsters who did not appear to be staying at the hotel. My husband said they walked out of the pool, wet, and got into a car. Who would do that if he was staying at the hotel? My mattress was worn out. The pull out sofa mattress was even worse, not to mention the sheets were missing, the pillows were missing. And the sheets did not fit right. Kept coming off. Seriously, I would take a pass unless-- like us-- you could not get a room elsewhere.

I have spent a lot of times in hotels and never had a better experience then the one I just had staying at this hotel. 100 % the nicest staff, clean room, and fun bar. Considering it was Derby weekend and there was so much going on everyone was over the top friendly and helpful. Although this hotel is a little ways away from everything, its well worth the extra travel time to stay there.

As many have said on their reviews, this hotel isn't located in the nicest part of town. We were a bit skeptical pulling up, as I said to my buddies "we'll only be in the room for 4 hours a night."

After check-in, running back out to the car to get our bags, and re-entering the hotel, both the check-in clerk (LeQuisha) and restaurant manager (Mo) already knew us by name. We threw our bags in the room and decided to grab a drink at the bar before heading out to Fourth Street Live. Our waitress (Brit) was extremely nice and friendly. While waiting for another cocktail, I ran up to the front counter and asked for the best taxi service in the area. LQ most definitely did that and hooked us up with a wonderful driver named Stephon. On the way out of the hotel we were once again welcomed to the hotel by Wil and given some great nightlife ideas downtown.

By this point in our trip, we were all kicking ourselves knowing we totally judged the book by its cover. The rest of the night was a blurr... ;)

Derby morning we woke up around 8:30 am with a much needed complimentary bottle of water that was delivered to our room by Sarah. We eventually walked down to the breakfast buffet that was phenomenal. I ate so much it held me over until dinner at 9 pm that night. We had scheduled ourselves in for the free shuttle to bring us to the tracks but my buddies wanted to hang around the hotel, have some drinks and talk with the staff more! I mean, that's unheard of! We went down to the hotel bar and tried to order some alcoholic drinks before the big race, unfortunately they were only serving bloody Mary's at the time. Mo overheard this and quickly opened up the bar for us to get the party underway. Just 1 extremely nice thing he didn't have to do but wanted to make sure our stay was the best it could be.

On our way out the doors to enjoy the warm weather, we were given another bottle of water to hydrate before the tracks. We talked outside to Wil for a good hour before Stephon showed up (which was the time we had schedule him for) and met some lovely ladies outside waiting for the same driver.

The race went great. My buddies won close to $1,000 on California Chrome which paid for their trip in itself.

Had another great dinner when we got back to the hotel restuarant. Once again, Brit treated us very well. I'd recommend the burger! We had a couple more cocktails and instead of heading out on Saturday night for downtown, we stayed around the hotel and they even opened up the conference room for us to play cards in. At this point, we were all blown away by how friendly the staff was, how they knew each one of us by name, and how they did everything imaginable to give us the best trip possible.

We woke up around 8:30 on Sunday morning and went down for the breakfast expecting to pay $10.99 for the buffet. LQ had gotten us 3 breakfast vouchers to cover the meals for us. This was the cherry on top of the Sundae for us.

You know you have done your job as a hotel when on a 7 hour trip back home to Michigan, all we could talk about was how friendly and nice the staff was at the Holiday Inn instead of talking about the Kentucky Derby. It got brought up over and over again, and all we could do is laugh about one of the best experiences we all had.

We will MOST DEFINITELY be coming back here next year and look forward to meeting all of our friends again at the Holiday Inn for the Kentucky Derby 2015.

We were traveling all night from Nebraska to Kentucky. We made arrangements at another hotel to check in early, however we had issues with the manager and decided to go somewhere else. We contacted the Holiday Inn Express and they were SO VERY helpful. They stated that they would let us check in early, with no extra charge and will get our rooms ready right away. They were so very helpful and kind. Staff helped us with our bags and got us some extra supplies that were needed. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We return to Louisville once a year, and they now have my business for future trips.

Friendly staff. Great room. Comfy bed. Easy access to the highway.Two things bothered me. I would have liked a microwave and frig. in the room,,at no extra charge. The wi- fi was slow and I kept getting kicked off. I rely on the internet for paperwork and communications. Sense I have a lot of that, I spend a great deal of time in my room and don't take breaks for a dinner out or trips to the vending area to beverages.

When I looked at the rooms and amenities on the hotel website they looked impressive. We had a room with a pullout bed. The pullout was broken and very stained. I reported this to the desk. There response: OK,tthanks for telling us. The amenities were not as pictured. The fitness center did not have the brand of equipment shown on the website, no towels and dirty.

Very noisy hotel.

The free coffee in the lobby was great.

I have stayed in a number of hotels from different chains over the last 15 years and this was by far my worst experience at a hotel. We arrived in our room with our 10 month old daughter and the room did not have the sleeper sofa, pubic hair on our bed spread, a cup of coffee sitting on the dresser, and a filthy wash cloth in the bathroom that appeared to have been used to clean the room.

Room Tip: Please do not stay here until they get the cleaning crew revamped.
