“Historic beauty”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2014

I love the best of historic, restored hotels & this is one of them! Staying at the hotel contributed to a wonderful family vacation to Louisville, KY. Definitely ask the front desk about the history of the hotel. Be sure to see the room of Rookwood pottery & have brunch in the Oak Room! We also toured the ballroom, of Great Gatsby fame. Loved it all! Wonderful hotel!

I'm a sucker for well preserved/restored historic hotels but they don't always live up their billing and, at times, the staff seems dedicated to making you feel unworthy to even be there. The Seelbach is every bit of what it says it is and more. From the grand staircase to the old Seebach Bar to the dignified yet welcoming manner of the staff, this hotel did all i wanted it to do. It's topped off by two dollar drinks in the concierge lounge, a free shuttle to the airport and a well equipped fitness room. I was there on business so had little time for the sixth street activity, but that's certainly another attraction. the restored Palace Theater is down the block in the other direction and worth a trip if there's an event.

Andrew I must thank you for such a wonderful review! I know the busy schedules of our business travelers does not always allow them the time to share thoughts from their stay. We greatly appreciate the feedback. I am sorry to hear that other historic hotels have left you with an "unworthy" feeling. You will not find that here at the Seelbach. We pride ourselves in offering the finest hospitality that a Southern and/or Midwestern hotel has to offer. There has always been some debate as to whether Kentucky is Southern or Midwestern. Most will lean towards a Southern distinction, and we certainly aim to exemplify the warmest Southern hospitality! On his visits we certainly must have provided such hospitality to F. Scott Fitzgerald, or he would not have been inspired to use the Seelbach as the backdrop for Tom and Daisy's wedding in The Great Gatsby.

I am so glad you enjoyed your experience in Louisville. Please come see us again soon!

We were in town for the PGA Tournament last weekend and chose to stay at the historic Seelbach Hilton. The location is incredible! It is next door to the 4th Avenue Live district which has many restaurants, bars and entertainment. It is a pedestrian only area at night. The service at the hotel was excellent. Very nice front desk staff and great VIP lounge on the 7th floor. All of the CBS sports commentators stayed here plus several top PGA players. The rooms are small due to the original construction back in the day. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: The 7th and 8th floors are teh Hilton HHonors club level rooms.

Dan, thank you for taking a moment to share your thoughts from your recent stay. Other than the heavy morning rain it was a wonderful PGA Championship weekend, and I am glad you selected the Seelbach for your accommodations. Our sincere thanks for the high recommendation!

We look forward to hosting you again in the near future.

The Seelbach Hilton is a welcome surprise in the era of sleep and run hotels. Staying at the Seelbach feels like stepping into a time machine. The experience and service is second to none. I will stay at the Seelbach if at all possible in the future.

Thank you David! What a great review! That encapsulates our goal for all guests. We aim to provide more than just great service and a place to sleep. With our history we provide guests the unique opportunity to have a "step back in time" experience.

We are thrilled you were able to stay with us for the PGA Championship weekend. Next time we will make sure to have Mother Nature hold off the heavy rain that we experienced each morning. Whether you return for golf or any other reason, we look forward to your next visit to the Seelbach.

I enjoyed the preservation that has been kept in this hotel built in 1905. The Grand staircase, wraparound mural in lobby, oak bar, and antiques throughout the hotel. Service was just ok. This Diamond had way better service elsewhere. Our room was small (especially the bathroom), but anyone familiar with buildings from yesteryear will appreciate what they've done. Just don't get room 707, you'll hear the stupid old elevator on the other side of the wall all night.
Don't forget to look up the ghost of the lady in the blue dress.

Many thanks for the review! We realize our guests have no requirement to provide reviews after their stay, but we greatly appreciate the feedback. With it we gain encouragement from the positives and opportunities from the negatives.

My apologies for any noise you experienced from the elevators during the night. On your next visit we will be sure to assign a room away from the elevator. Likewise, I am sorry to hear that you received anything less than exemplary service from our team. If there are any specifics that you would be willing to apprise me of, please use the email below at your convenience.

We look forward to having the opportunity to host you and your family on your next trip to Louisville. Until then, thank you for your business and for your loyalty to the Hilton family of hotels.

The Seelbach is a historic hotel, with beautiful marble lobby. Be sure to see the room frequented by Al Capone before escaping authorities via tunnels, and the Rathskeller in the basement. Great lobby bar.
Extremely convenient location near riverfront, 1/2 block to Louisville Live venue and nightlife. Be aware on 4th St - a few unsavory characters and panhandlers.
Rooms are luxurious but very small. Comfortable beds. Bathroom also very small with little space for toiletries.

Thank you for the lovely review! I am glad you were able to get out and explore some of what downtown Louisville has to offer. I am also thrilled that you were able to take the time to explore some of the tucked-away corners of the hotel that offer so much in terms of architecture and history.

Please come see us again soon and we'll be sure to select a larger room with a little more counter space for your convenience.

We look forward to your next visit to Louisville!
