“Grand Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

The Seelbach is a classic hotel that still has the charm of the time period that it represents. The grand staircase, the inviting lobby, the fresh flowers, all of this adds to the ambience. This is a very nice hotel.

It is a classic older downtown location. So if you have kids that need a pool you may be out of luck. But there is a workout room for the adults, a very nice lobby bar that takes you back to the 20's and 30's and a remarkable rathskellar in the lower level that looks like a 1920's speak easy.

The rooms are small or as they say... "European", but nevertheless they are smaller than many modern hotels. Very simple, a desk, chair, bed, television and a bathroom. If you are going for just the hotel get a bigger room, if not then any room is fine.

Room Tip: All rooms seemed very quiet. The hotel is in an ideal location on 4th street just South f the enter...

I stayed overnight at the hotel with friends. We went to Fourth Street Live for a girls weekend/Bachelorette Party. The location of the hotel in relation to Fourth Street Live is GREAT! It is right across the street which makes for a quick walk! The lobby of the hotel and its interior is beautiful and historic. We were happy with the size of our room and it was clean. The beds were very comfortable as well. There are restaurants and a bar inside the hotel. We didn't go to them but from what we saw they looked decent. The hotel does not have a pool and we were okay with that since we were only staying one night and we were out and about most of the time anyways. Right across the street at Fourth Street Live there are a great selection of restaurants and bars as well, but be sure to check the hours of these places before you go. Some places are only open certain days/hours of the week. I would definitely stay at this hotel again!

Room Tip: We had a room at the end of the hall and away from the elevators which we liked. It was more peacef...

Very helpful staff greet you when you arrive. The lobby and ballrooms are beautiful. The rooms are lovely, though a little smaller than more modern hotels. But it was worth it. Slept great on very comfortable mattress (and I am usually picky, with back problems). Great experience! Only complaint is that the portacrib that we got for our baby looked like it was from the 1940s. We got our pack and play out of the car instead.

I stayed at the seelbach July 2012. Hotel is very clean and decor was impressive. Food at all restaurants was five star. Hotel is classic looking and I would suggest Hyatt if you want contemporary style. Rooms are small. We had room with queen bed. Where the bed was there is only small space to walk. Bathroom very small, ie. only one can fit at a time without any luggage and it is difficult to change due to small space. That being said, loved the stay thus the four star. Would have been higher but room size gave a decrease. It is only two short walking blocks from the convention center and rates were better than any other hotel. Hyatt has a direct walkway to the convention center but the walk was nice and not far. Service great at all aspects of the hotel.

Beautiful, elegant hotel. Located just across the street from Forth Street entertainment area where there are lots of restaurants. Our room was immaculately clean, nicely furnished, great linens, and comfy bed. The bathroom was a little on the small side, but that was perfectly ok because there was a full-length mirror with a nearby outlet in the room (why don't more hotels offer this simple "luxury"), My husband and I decided we'd find another reason to visit Louisville in the future so we can stay here again! The only negative I can say is that parking is $25/nite, and as far as I could tell, you didn't have options.

My husband and I booked a room for our anniversary. WOW!! What a luxurious place. The bar off of the lobby was quaint and very romantic. Doorman and valet excellent. Front desk at check in we were made to feel as if we were the only guests in the hotel. They could NOT have been more polite and hospitable!! We can't wait for next year!!!

We didn't stay here but went for drinks in the hotel bar. I wanted to see the hotel and see the bar. It is a gorgeous hotel and the bar is quaint and 'old time' looking. We did go down to the rathskeller. Definitely check it out if you can -- it's beautiful with all the red tiles. The bartenders were very friendly and the drinks were delicious. I did try The Seelbach drink -- champagne, bourbon, triple sec and a few other things. It was pretty good! We enjoyed our drinks and spending time talking to the bartenders in this grand old hotel. Stop in if you can while there!
