“It's a great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2009

My wife and I had a great stay at this hotel. The building is striking. Their employees were just wonderful. We were warmly greeted by all the staff each day. The lobby is picturesque. The sleeping room was pretty - nice furnishings and a very comfortable bed - we got a great nights sleep. The restaurants are excellent - we enjoyed the hotel's specialty sandwich, the Hot Brown. We would definitely return. Recommend this place to anyone.

We stayed here for one night, booked through hotwire, before transferring to a Bed and Breakfast for a longer stay. The hotel is beautiful but what was really striking is the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff.

We arrived fairly early in the morning, about 11:30, and our room was not ready, but the bell captain stored our luggage and the front desk took our cellphone number and said the room would be ready within two hours. While we were handling the formalities I mentioned that my wife was from Louisville and in fact had attended her high school prom in the hotel's ballroom.

We walked a few blocks to 4th Street Live for lunch and about an hour later the hotel called to let us know our room was ready. When we got back we found that they had upgraded us to a concierge-floor room (albeit without access to the concierge lounge) and it was corner room to boot. The room was beautiful, large, nicely decorated with excellent views. Wi-fi access was free and worked well.

We had drinks in the hotel's lobby bar where the list of bourbons is extensive and the bartender knowledgeable and friendly. We had room service breakfast the next morning, delicious and delivered promptly.

The next morning there were terrible storms and floods. The valet staff were very friendly, they mentioned that the bottom floor of the garage had started flooding but they managed to get "all but one" of the cars out in time. They added that, noticing our car was brand new (it had about 2500k on the odometer at the time) they moved it first.

All in all it was a great stay and the staff were so friendly. It was also a genuine friendliness, not a false front seeking tips or the kind of snootiness one can sometimes find in hotels of this caliber. We hope to be back again soon.

This hotel is terrific the rooms are nice the lobby is beautiful it is very comfortable. Everyone always leaves reviews about how the parking garage is connected to the hotel which is great but everyone says the parking fee is a lot i asked the front desk how much i would be charged when i left the garage they said we stamp everyones card who is staying at the hotel so parking was FREE remember to ask at the front desk to have your card stamped, but they still charge for valet parking. Best hotel ever!! Remember to ask the front desk to stamp your card that you receive when you enter the parking garage its FREE

This is one of the nicest and most accommodating hotels - staff and customer service is the best. I stayed on the club level, room was spacious, lovely and nicely furnished, and bed was comfy. (make sure you join http://www.iprefer.com/) Lovely extra touches including books on nightstand, consistently thoughtful turndown with chocolates, ice, room valet and chess table in room. As club levels are becoming more and more cost effective, this was one of the nicest. I have stayed in other hotels in the area and there is no comparison. As a business traveler, I also appreciated the free airport shuttle. Staff in all departments were absolutely exceptional, even the gift shop. Recommend this hotel highly. One of the most comfortable places I've stayed in.

We stayed two nights over the weekend and had a great stay. The rooms are clean and classy but small (typical for hotel age). Bathroom was marble with windows out to street (need those curtains). The lobby is beatiful with great seating. Make sure you take some time sit there and have a drink (bourbon of course!). Staff was very helpful and courteous.

Stayed at The Brown on a Friday night, 11th floor Luxury King Room on the 4th Street side of the building. Across the street, there is a brewery with outside tables and had loud, live music all evening long, which was a bit irritating although they quit relatively early. The pictures on the website make the lobby look huge, when in fact it's not. Our room was very large with a full size sofa and coffee table across one end of the room. Can't complain about cleanliness and even though it is one of the Historic Hotels of America, the furnishings had quite a bit of street wear (average at best). Main purpose of staying there was to get an authentic "Kentucky Hot Brown", which was very good and we dined in the English Grille. Nice atmosphere. I must say the staff was very attentive and called you by name, which is a nice touch. It's not the most luxurious place I've stayed and not the worst.

Despite living close by in Lexington, this was our first stay at the historic Brown. We got a Club Luxury room at an excellent rate (presumably since it was July 4th weekend). Since it was my husband's birthday, I called and ask the concierge to place a gift from the gift shop in the room prior to our arrival for him and Ashley was happy to oblige. Every staff member we encountered was very polite and accommodating. The room itself was lovely, with a comfortable bed, beautiful artwork, and charm from a different age. The lobby is gorgeous and the English Grill was amazing. Neil, the English Grill's manager, was exceptional in regards to customer service and the food was some of the best we've ever had. The only negatives, which really weren't even negatives in our eyes (but I'm including them because I like to read complete reviews to make an informed decision before I book a hotel) were that they forgot to bring a fridge up to our room, the housekeeping staff was still attending to rooms on our floor at 5pm, and the location isn't in a great neighborhood. However, the front desk was VERY prompt in getting that fridge to us when we called to remind them and the location, while not in the best area, IS very convenient and close to downtown. While valet parking and dining aren't cheap here, they are worth it. We will definitely stay at the Brown again when we want another special weekend getaway.
