“Very comfortable hotel with universally exceptional service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2012

Stayed at this hotel for the Kentucky Derby weekend. The renovated lobby area was modern and spacious, a drinks reception greeted us on arrival, the beds were incredibly comfortable and it is in a very convenient location right in the middle of the city so it was easy to wander out for a walk/drink/meal etc. However, the best thing about the hotel was the service - in every respect from reception to the restaurant to the maids who serviced the room. We are normally relatively low maintenance guests but on this occasion I had to trouble the staff to return a pair of boots which I had had delivered to the hotel, borrow a travel plug, get a suitcase padlock which had malfunctioned broken open and generally organise our travel arrangements. Nothing was too much trouble. The friendliness and willingness to help was much appreciated by two tired travellers after a 17 hour journey to Louisville. The breakfasts are excellent, particularly the fresh omelettes. The staff at "Sway" were outstandingly friendly and helpful and the Executive Chef appeared at every meal to confirm that we were happy with our food. If I had any negative point, it was only that the decor of the rooms and upper floors was a bit tired (and '70s brown!) and could do with updating at some point. In line with almost every other hotel, the rate was inevitably quite expensive over the Derby weekend and would be much better value at other times. Would highly recommend this hotel to others.

Room Tip: Higher floors likely to have less street noise.

We stayed at this Hyatt the weekend before the Derby, so the prices were very reasonable. Great location right downtown, you could walk to 4th Street Live, the Seelbach for a cocktail at their charming funky bar, a choice of two Starbucks, the Taste of Kentucky shop for a giant bourbon cake, and the Louisville Slugger Museum if you need a baseball bat or are just curious as to how they are made. AND just half a block away is the tourist office where you can get your picture taken with a life-sized Colonel Sanders!

Our room was on the 17th floor and had a view of the river. If the balloon races hadn't been canceled due to high winds, we probably could have watched from the comfort of our room. Comfortable beds, very quiet, nice. They did have one piece of depressing artwork, a print looking down a spiral staircase into a dark void. Interesting choice. Could have used a mirror instead...

Because of the really helpful and very nice staff (concierge, valet parking guys, check in people, the bartender who gave us cookies), I was able to forgive them for not having free wifi in the rooms!

I would definitely stay there again!

This hotel was recently renovated .... It is like a new hotel with an absolutely great location. Forget the Brown and the Steilbach Hilton. Great great service. Ask for Jean at their luxury bar, she rocks. Very quiet rooms. Wonderful conference facilities.

Stayed at this hotel during the weekend of the Kentucky Derby. This hotel is staffed with the most amazing people! They truly go above and beyond to help their guests. I realized when I arrived at the airport that I left my wallet in my room. I called and spoke with Angie at the front desk. She printed my boarding pass so I could save time when I returned to the airport AND even met me at the cab when I returned to the hotel with my wallet and boarding passes! It's service like this that will keep people coming back!
The location of this hotel is simply the best in Louisville. The hotel is literally in the center of everything! There is plenty to do within steps of the hotel.

From the outside and where you are dropped off by our taxi, the Hyatt Regency looks quite blah until you go in and start interacting with the staff. From the front desk, to room service, to my live wake-up call, the functions staff that assisted us, I was impressed. Each expressed gratitude that I was there and I believe genuinely wanted me to come back and visit again. The room service Fried Chicken was some of the best I've ever had. Really crispy and definitely homemade batter. Room was spacious and had a nice view of the the city and happening 4th street.

Room Tip: Try to request a view of the 4th Street Area

This is a nice hotel. Everything is updated and nice inside. There was some construction going on in the lobby, but nothing we couldn't handle. We stayed for two nights while the NCAA Tournament was at the YUM Center, so as you could have imagined we were completely gouged on the price of the rooms ($204 per night per room). I decided not to consider this in my review of the hotel since everywhere else was doing the same thing. The real benefit to staying at this hotel is if you are planning on checking out 4th Street Live, the Hyatt is right by the entrance. No parking, taxi, or long walk to worry about.

Travelling from VA to Chicago, stopped in Louisville. First, the parking lot is difficult to find; found it safe and secure, well lit too. Very persistant housekeeping knocked on door in AM. My response--go away. She came back 30 minutes later. Now the thing is, the the majority of doors open into open atrium (beautiful to look at, loud and a bit conspicuous to open door to in AM)--didn't feel the need to open door to EVERYONE in the am to put sign out---come on--it was 830A!

On the other hand, the bed was SUPER comfy and the front desk help was, while under construction, was very helpful! I asked for a river-view room (see pic), they upgraded me to King on 15th floor (from 6th floor inside view)---very accomodating, very nice people. I do agree that the soap products smell industrial (white ginger/Portico).

Great value on Priceline for a King (bid $55-yahoo and won).

Pros: Good, safe location, safe parking, cute/trendy room, comfy bed, welcoming/nice staff

Cons: no roomservice menu, no tv menu, no direct river view, pay for wifi ($$), no breakfast, parking $10 for overnight guests

Room Tip: No breakfast, $$ for wireless, no TV menu, no room service menu
