“Excellent property”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2011

I stayed here while attending a business conference at the convention center. The valet was very helpful even though I was self parking and helped me find a place in a crowded garage. The young woman at check in was extremely nice and actually made me feel as if she was happy to have me as a guest. The room was in excellent condition, very well appointed and the wireless internet worked fairly well for hotel internet. The hotel is located just a few steps from several restaurants so there was no need to drive anywhere.

The hotel is clean and classy. The location is excellent. It is right next to the "4th Street Live" tourist area, and an easy walk to places like the Louisville Slugger factory/museum.

I stayed in an executive suite, which is actually two adjoining separate rooms (with different room numbers). The bedroom is a normal hotel room. Then there is a connecting door to another hotel room which is set up like a living room. There is a sofa, table, etc. The "living room" room actually has connecting doors to another regular hotel room on the other side of it. So, it could be used to make either of the adjacent regular rooms into a suite. Theoretically, I guess you could rent both adjacent regular rooms and the "living room" room and end up with a two-bedroom suite. Presumably the sofa in the living room has a pull-out bed, but you would never rent this room by itself. It is just there to make an adjoining room into a suite. I have never seen that sort of configuration before. It worked out fine. The only weird part was having two different room numbers. That was a little weird when I confirmed my reservation and it said I had booked two rooms. I initially thought that was a mistake. It was also odd to order room service and decide which room number to use.

My only compaint was that the picture on the TV was poor. I rented a pay-per-view movie and the picture was so back I asked them to remove the charge from my bill (which they did).

I was at the Hyatt for a convention in Mid-July. The hotel is very close to 4th street live. The skywalk will connect you to the food court area, the Marriott hotel, or the convention center. No free wi-fi which was a bit of a let-down. One employee that really stands out is Jean at the Hyatt bar. She was there every night of our convention and knew us all by first name after the first night we were there. What a true sign of Kentucky hospitality!

Located next to Fourth Street Live, so if you don't have a fan or something to drown out the noise you are going to be up all night. Rooms are clean. We stayed in a standard room. Room had no refrigerator, nor free internet. Got what I paid for I guess.
There is a sign in front of the hotel, "no coolers" however, we passed some strippers at the front desk going up to a bacholar party carring a cooler. (Guess it's who you are??)

Room Tip: Get a room opposite to Fouth Street Live, and bring a cooler (with strippers)

I spent a couple nights at the motel. I was impressed by the 18 story atrium and friendly desk staff. The rooms were clean, the bed felt dated but I liked the bedding. Overall I would have been satisfied but the motel had a couple deficiencies.

The restaurant closes at 4:00. OK but the only place to order food is the second floor bar. Both nights the meals were mediocre and the cost was very high. I spent 22$ for a chicken and rice dish that couldn't have been more than 4 oz. and took over 45 minutes to receive. Beware of breakfast. The servers pour coffee and orange juice for 5$ before you can even think about it. Buffet was $15.00. Service was slow and unfriendly.

The motel is OK if you need a room downtown but I suggest you eat your meals out.

Room Tip: Motel is OK but go out for food

Begin with the standard Hyatt feel of luxury and add the fact that this hotel is 1/2 block from Louisville's 4th street live dining and entertainment district and it is easy to see why this was a fun destination for a weekend getaway. Peppers lounge on the second floor was a fun gathering spot with two pool tables and lots of comfy chairs, a great place to wind up or down an evening. They also had a AAA breakfast deal which was awesome. Safe parking garage was attached and good service by all the staff throughout the Hyatt. Great location, great experience.

Room Tip: The higher floors have the best view.

Stayed here for conference, but would not be my first choice. I've stayed in much better hotels for less and stayed in worse hotels for more - very average. I'm returning to Louisville in a week and will not be staying here again. Some of the pros/cons:
- No free wireless in rooms unless you have T-mobile, you have to pay for your internet...with temp T-Mobile account
- No free breakfast or "manager reception" of any kind., but you can get the WSJ to read which was nice.
- You can buy breakfast in hotel, but I didn't. Also, Einstein Bagel is on property.
- HDTV...but low def TV shows - standard picture quality looks even worse on a big screen - cheap, cheap.
- It is close to 4th Street Live (food/entertainment area) and downtown attractions like slugger factory/museum...but so are most other downtown hotels.
- Three parking rates - park it and leave it, park it with in/out or valet. Self park with in/out privileges is $13 a night...about average
- Walkway connects to Kentucky Conference Center all the way to the Ohio River/Galt House Hotel...about three blocks away. Would be nice in bad weather.
- Lots of food choices from fast food to expensive food within two/three blocks of hotel.
- Bar food was good and reasonable, but the bourbon was pricey (in Kentucky!)
- Live music on Friday in the summer a block from hotel. Fun if you like, noisy if you don't.
- Never saw security but plenty of panhandlers within several blocks each way and in front of the hotel...oh yeah, some "musicians" too. Didn't like being approached for money...quite often.
