“The Gem hiding behind the Ivy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

My partner and I stayed in the Katherine room which was booked as a Birthday surprise for me and what a surprise it was. From entering the house the decor was stunning was like we had travelled in a time machine.
Nancy is a lovely kind hearted soul and kept us entertained for the short time we was there and fed us well with an amazing waffle and tasty eggs to set us up for the day.
I know she was most upset regarding the removal of her beautiful Ivy however Nancy you too have a beautiful house beneath good look with your future plans and as part of our Road Trip this truly made a memory we will find hard to forget .

If you are contemplating staying do and we walked to new town and the surrounding areas day and night do not be put off by comments we found the friendliest people to be those of Louisville and if you want to learn more book City Taste Tours we were picked up outside and it was an amazing treat worth every single penny.
Thanks again Nancy

I stayed in Katherine's room at Aleksander House on my way through Louisville. I travel all the time as I'm a musician and am always craving a perfectly homely but elegant place to feel human for a while and this ticked every box. And as a vegan and gluten free person...I never expect breakfast, but boy o boy, Nancy made me GF pancakes, and that was just the cherry on top.

A wonderful host, a gorgeous house and a restful nights sleep. Next time I go back to Louisville I definitely stay there again, and maybe add an extra day or two...

Nancy runs a great B&B! She was able to accommodate us in 2 of the rooms - all were wonderful - they truly felt like home. There is so much privacy in the Inn, as it is a huge, beautiful old home. She provided everything we needed, and more - snacks and beverages were always available, as well as a small fridge for us. Our two boys actually loved the stay there - as this was part of a longer car trip, they kept talking about stopping back in Louisville to visit Nancy on the way home! Close to Churchill Downs and downtown - don't miss the Kentucky Derby Museum, the Louisville Slugger factory tour, and a stop in to the lobby/gallery of the 21c hotel - a unique experience. Thank you, Nancy!

We had a very warm welcome and a comfortable stay at the Aleksander House. The innkeeper, Nancy, is very kind and accommodating. The Inn has a lot of old charm and a nice backyard for the good weather. While the neighborhood had a lot of historic old homes, it was also rather quiet and not within walking distance to some of the main attractions. Many things are however within a short drive.

Cozy and romantic, the food was outstanding, the location was perfect for walking in the historical district and the University of Louisville, and handy to Churchill Downs. Nancy was a pleasure to meet and talk with. We stayed in Roxanne's room, easy to access, very comfortable.
A great introduction to Louisville.

A longtime friend and I stayed at Aleksander House last weekend. We were looking for a room with two beds and Aleksander had just the room. When I called to book it, it was already taken, but Nancy, the wonderful owner of this gorgeous Victorian B & B, offered me a suite with two rooms adjoining and she even offered a reduction in price for the suite in order to meet our needs. When we arrived, she welcomed us into her home and provided freshly made ice tea and delicious cookies. We stayed in the Kimberly Suite, which is on the second floor and was important to me as I am on a cane. It was two rooms with a door between them, both were large, clean and very comfortable. One of the rooms had a wonderful sitting area with a comfy sofa and two wingback chairs arranged around a fireplace. We had a large, clean bathroom in the hall all to ourselves. We enjoyed two breakfasts there and both were delicious. We also enjoyed visiting with the other people staying there in addition to chatting with Nancy, who made sure everyone's stay was pleasant. The location is great, close to downtown and there was always enough on-street parking no matter what time of the day or night we returned back to the house.

Room Tip: Nancy, the owner of Aleksander House B & B, has a variety a different room accomodations and wil...

My husband and I stayed at Aleksander House this past weekend when we were in town for the Jane Austen Festival (which is held about 15 minutes away at Historic Locust Grove).

We stayed in Katherine's Room, and my mother stayed in Alek's Room (these are the only two rooms on the third floor, so we had a floor and restroom to ourselves!). The decoration in our room was beautiful, and the bed was SO comfortable. We were very pleased with the little amenities provided, such as the bathrobes tidily tucked into the closet for us.

Breakfasts were absolutely delicious. Nancy varies every other morning with sweet or savory breakfasts, and all three of our breakfasts were wonderful. The staff was very attentive, and Nancy always pops in at the end of the breakfast to make sure everything is satisfactory. Nancy herself was very pleasant to talk to; she is an older woman with a mind as sharp as a tack, and we very much enjoyed talking about our varied interests together.

The only caveat I would note about Aleksander House is its location - it is in an older, historic part of town and the neighborhood has gone to renters, and not been kept up as well as it could have been. While we did not feel unsafe in this location, we did not walk around much outside. For us, this was not a problem at all, but something to be aware of when booking a vacation.

I would definitely return to this B&B and book the exact same room. We had a great time!

Room Tip: We loved Katherine's room, it was very elegant and the bed was extremely comfortable. It is, how...
