“Money Mongers”

My visits to Phoenix Hill Tavern, come few and far and in-between. I have been a patron and resident of the Highland, Baxter avn., Phoenix Hill area for over fifteen years. I would have to say in the bar/venue has gone down hill, especially in the past ten years. My friends and I avoid this place like the plague. It is an utter misrepresentation of the the Highland area. Bringing a majority of its business outside the local community. The crowd that this bar attracts conflicts with the alternative-liberal air this area exudes, and not to mention the drunkards, that fell the local neighborhoods with profanity and other immoral actions. I have nothing against a local business flourishing. I only ask that other be taken into consideration.

“Don't go unless you want to laugh your butt off at the idiots!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2008

This place used to be classic and so much fun! And when I say "used to be" I mean early 90s and before. Now it's a meat market for the overfed and underfed. If you like chicks stuck in the 80s, with the big hair, bad make-up, clothes four sizes too small for their rotund bodies and more muffin top than you can shake a stick at. If you like your guys like cavemen (undereducated, barely literate, questionable whether they should ever speak AND grabbing your butt, which applies to the females too, really) dressed in more "bling" than 50 Cent and you like seeing random stranger's underpants because their pants don't fit. This crowd is always rude rude rude. If the servers are rude, it's probably because they are one of the crowd on their day off or their nerves are shot to hell! If that's your bag, you'll be in hog heaven. If not, MISS THIS PLACE WITH WIDE BERTH. THERE IS A PLUS...there are occasional promoted shows that are put on at Phoenix Hill as the venue itself is pretty decent with a good sound system and acoustics. If there is a band you like that is playing there, it will probably sound great, given they have their own sound people. The bar itself is very interesting and has a lot of history and there are several rooms for music that sound good, given the bands are good. It really is a shame that a place with so much potential has gone so far down that slippery slope. So...if you are from out of town (especially a major metropolitan city) and want a good laugh at the yokels, have a bad flashback to the 80s with some thug wannabes thrown in, it might be worth it. If you are looking for something fun and RELEVANT to the new millennium, take a pass.

Phoenix Hill Tavern blows me away! The bands there are kick-*** and the club itself is like a maze trying to walk your way through to the different areas of the club! I couldn't beleive the scenery in the club filled with antiques with 4 different stages with different bands at each one. The Roof Garden is amazing....live foliage & plants EVERYWHERE! This was definately a unique and very fun place to go in Louisville!
