“Great Customer Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012

We had a very good experience when we visited Sato's Zen. Everyone from the staff was extremely welcoming. Our waiter was knowledgable and informative of the sushi menu which differs from the usual sushi fare. Ordered a few rolls that were pretty good even though they incorporate a lot of fruit in their dishes (i'm not a fan of fruit generally). Sushi was fresh and tasteful. The best part was ordering the spicy tuna sashimi and getting pieces of toro instead of regular tuna. It was damn delicious. I would definitely go back and try some rolls that don't have such a heavy fruit influence. However, customer service alone would bring me back.

We had the Happy Geisha, Sparta and Pink Floyd sushi. They were excellent. Will definitely come back.

“Clean atmosphere and out-of-the-ordinary maki choices.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2012

A couple of weeks ago, my wife and I gave this new Japanese establishment a try. So far, it seems promising, based on the sushi selections we made.

There is a traditional menu for those who aren't fond of sushi, but Sato's Zen's specialty is sushi, and there are several rather unusual maki rolls. Among our choices was the Fashion Roll (a deep-fried roll) and the Tuna Symphony (spicy tuna inside, tuna and mango on top with a berry glaze). However, the standout entree for our visit was the Flying Sea Monster: fried shrimp tempura on the inside, braised fish on top, decorated with three different colors of roe and three different colors of wasabi sauce-- including blue! I included a picture, as it is indeed a nice presentation, one that will have people from neighboring tables asking what it is.

The service was only average, though; our visit was on a midweek early evening, and the servers were nowhere to be found on more than one occasion. The sushi chefs were nice enough, though, and the atmosphere is clean with modern decor lines.

The cost per roll is a smidgen more than what is found at the sushi bar at most Japanese steakhouses. Still, the unique fusion-style choices here can make up for that, from the viewpoint of an adventurous sushi aficionado.

We may come back soon, if only to try the heavily hyped 6 Feet Under roll, purported to be extremely spicy, and is apparently free if you can finish it in 10 minutes without drinking anything.

** Pro Tip **: This place claims to require reservations on Friday and Saturday evenings; based on the scarcity of the servers, I would agree on reservations and not chance a walk-in on those nights, as the service may become unbearably slow.
