“great neighborhood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013

Anyone who likes Savannah or Charleston will love Old Louisville. It has the same feel and a similar collection of impressive homes. I took a ghost walk last night with David, a local author who writes about the neighborhood. He meets you at the corner of Magnolia and St James Court and shows you the best of local history and architecture and tells a ghost story or two. His knowledge is encylcopaedic and he can tell you practically everything you need to know about the neighhorhood and the city in general. During the day he gives regular history and architecture walks. Call the visitor's center in historic old louisville and the calls go directly to him since the visitor's center recently shut its doors. The tours fortunately are still being offered though. A must see for anyone who is an old house nut.

“Wonderful ambience.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2013

Stayed at a friend's house in Old Louisville near Central Park recently. It was at the time they were setting up for the St. James Art Festival. This is one of the premier attraction to see in Louisville. It's a wonderful way to experience Old Louisville at its finest. The show takes several hours to see, plus there is also entertainment and, of course, food. You could easily spend the whole day at the festival and still not see everything, it's that big.The artists come from all over the country and it's rated the number one art show in the U.S. Unfortunately, as of Saturday afternoon (it started Friday afternoon) it was rained out, but it certainly will be back next year, in October. You really should not miss it!

“Difficult to Visit”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

I was very excited to visit this area, but the Old Louisville Visitor's Center is no longer there. We did pick up a self-guided tour in the downtown visitor's center. The houses show a wide variety of Victorian styles, but without a tour of some sort it was a bit of a struggle to know where to actually go.

“Beautiful old homes to see”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

We visited during the St. James Court Art Fair which takes place in old Louisville. The homes are stunning and have unique architectural details. Proceeds from the Art Fair have served to preserve many of these homes and the streets around them.

“Beautiful old neighborhood”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2013

Old Louisville is a wonderful walking tour along Third and Fourth Streets in Louisville about two miles south of central downtown and worth the walk. The neighborhood is a good example of a mix of funky rental homes and gentrified, restored gems, along with some beautiful old, stone churches. We noticed several B&Bs along the blocks as well. The weekend we were there happened to be Louisville's big annual arts festival, which takes up residence along these streets, but we avoided most of the hubbub by waiting till after hours to stroll. There is not much in the way of places to eat down there but we did manage to find a decent enough eatery. If you enjoy architecture and walking, this is a good option and gets you out of the tourist-centric downtown.
