...forget all your cares and go down... town!
Sorry, went off on a Petula Clark trip there... but my trip to the Hampton Inn was a bit like the song. There is a LOT of noise in downtown Louisville, mainly from the biker bar in the next block and the emergency vehicles of nearby Jewish Hospital. We had to set the air conditioner to "on" all night to provide some white noise to cover up the outside noises. We were in a room on the sixth floor that faced the street/corner with the bar, so other locations may be better within the hotel. If you have a chance to request, lower and facing the back of the property may be better.
However, on the plus side, Hampton has a top notch property here. The fixtures, linens, carpeting, televisions... all look like they're less than a year old. The lights in the room are all specailly designed for the room and have an easy-to-find switch... something that every hotel chain should consider doing. The Hampton Inn custom alarm clock is another example of simplicity and genius. The work desk in the room is unique - with a curved front. In case you plan on sewing in the room, you should know that my wife found it excellent for setting up her sewing machine while I went to my business appointments. The staff is helpful and happy.
On our three day visit, their phone system was down the whole time... but in this day and age, that's usually not an issue. Between my wife and I, our hotel room had two phone numbers instead of our usual three (two cells and the house phone.)
Breakfast at Hampton is supposed to be varied (at least that's what you'd think from the sign posted in the lobby) but at this location, we had repeats on the first two days, and the sign never changed.
If you're headed through Louisville for a night, the property is worth considering. I would recommend it to a friend... who owned a pair of earplugs or who was a heavy sleeper.
