“Sister Dragonfly Gallery-A great place to find everything..clothes, art, books, jewelry, funky gifts..they have it all.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2011

I have visited Sister Dragonfly Gallery many times. They do an awesome job of filling the store with things you don't see every day. I recently went to a party where I wore an item I bought at the store. Countless people asked me where I bought the jacket because it was different yet fun and functional. They have clothes that look good on everyone, no matter what your size or shape. They also carry jewelry, art, books, cards, and other items. The place just makes you feel good when you visit. I always have a smile when I leave and normally something cool to wear. Say hello to Harpo and Star!

“Adorable and walkable nieghborhood with great shopping and dining!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2011

Frankfort Avenue is a quaint and eclectic neighborhood that truly showcases the unique and charming character of Louisville. There is a wonderful guide to the Avenue containing a map and listings that can be picked up (for free) at any of the local shops or eateries.

We live nearby the area and we love eating at the locally owned restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is a lot of al fresco options, including Nancy's Bagels for breakfast, the Irish Rover for lunch, and Varanese or Sol Aztecas for dinner. El Mundo has the best margaritas in town - but don't have more than two! There are so many wonderful ethnic restaurants as well, some of my favorite dishes are the spicy chicken soup from Sari Sari and the chicken gyro from Its All Greek to Me.

Whenever I want to buy a unique gift for friends or family, I always head to the Frankfort Avenue area. Work the Metal (located in the Butchertown Market on Story Avenue) has awesome jewelry and home decor items for a great price, and I love browsing the furniture and art at eyedia on Mellwood Avenue. If you're looking for great deals on clothes and accessories, there are tons of great consignment shops in the area! Margaret's Consignment has a huge selection of upscale women's clothes, and Evolve offers upscale menswear.

The FAT Friday trolley hops (held on the final Friday of every month) are such a blast! You can ride the trolley up and down the Avenue for free, and many retailers have live music, wine tastings, and special sales.

In general, the neighborhood is extremely clean and family friendly. You can even tour the American Printing House for the Blind's Museum and factory for free! You will not find chain stores in this area - only locally owned businesses with the friendliest staff and owners you'll ever meet. This is a must-see part of town for visitors, and a frequent haunt for the locals.

“Forget the chain stores and outlets...check out the avenue”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2011

If you are visitng for a few days make the most of your time by checking out the Historic Frankfort Avenue near downtown Louisville...I read about in in the guidebook provided by my waterfront hotel. Revitalized and inviting..the length of the avenue is broken into shopping and dining sections that one can pick and choose to visit. With consignment shops that rival any regular retail store in selection and price -find too-- galleries nearby and restaurants to compliment anyone's taste and price preference. You'll be greeted as if you were a long time friend and don't be afraid to ask what else there is to do in the area. Most of the shop/store/ restaurant owners live in the neighborhood and are proud to point you to a trusted neighboring merchant..

“Charming, eclectic neighborhood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2011

A historic neighborhood filled with unique boutiques, art galleries, and restaurants.

Some favorites include All Greek to Me restaurant at 2716 Frankfort (a bit of a greasy spoon, but you may get lucky and spy a belly dancer there!), Carmichael's Bookstore next door, and the Crescent Hill Trading Company around the corner - which features timeless treasures, collectibles and antique jewelry.

For more upscale dining, a half block away is Porcini's, specializing in Northern Italian fare, and one of the infamous haunts of UL basketball coach Rick Pitino.
