“Awesome Hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2011

This hotel was great! My wife and I took our one year old son to Louisville for a long weekend. The rooms were clean, beds were great (my son loved jumping with all the pillows on the bed), and it was quiet. The pool was nice and very spacious as well. The location was very convenient and provided a 10-15 minute drive from all of the attractions downtown.

We stayed on the 3rd floor, and although the hotel was clean and cheap the location near the airport made for very noisy nights with constant aircraft landing and taking off during the night, the hotel was miles from any where and you had to get a taxi to go anywhere. Our room was left unlatched after cleaning one day, good job nothing had gone missing. the food at the restaurant was plain and consistent as was the breakfast and the menu range was quite limited.

We were travelling to Texas from Ontario, Canada, and stayed over in Louisville, KY for a night at the Crowne Plaza. The hotel was easy to find, just off the I-264, and since we would be continuing our trip the next day on I--65, the location was perfect.

We didn't have a reservation since we were playing by ear as to where we would stop for the night depending on our energy level. When we showed up at the hotel, the lobby was pretty full. There appeared to be some girls' soccer tournament in town, and the place was filled with teenage girls and their parents. However, the lady at the front desk promptly found us a room with a king bed at a rate that was actually cheaper than what I found online the previous day before our departure from home. We also got a CAA/AAA discount on top of that.

The room itself was right next to the elevator, which gave me some misgivings at first, considering the crowd that was staying there at the time. However, there seemed to be a curfew after 10pm, and everything quieted down for the night, and we were never disturbed by noise either from the corridor or from the rooms next door.

The bathroom was clean, even though the building wasn't brand new. There was a kitchenette outside the bathroom for the coffee-maker and a bar sink. The floors, both the carpetted part and the bathroom floor, were clean. (We always take our shoes off when inside the room and walked around in sock feet, and my white socks stayed relatively white even at the end of the evening.)

Pros: clean room, efficient and polite front-desk, ceramic mugs and real glasses, even take-away styrofoam cups for the morning in-room coffee, clean and thick towels, bathroom amenities, reasonable rate

Cons: nothing to complain

Just what you'd expect at a Crowne Plaza. Beautiful hotel, spacious, comfortable rooms, delidcious dinner in the dining room, gracious staff. Highly recommended. Shuttle from the airport, convenient and courteous.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2011

We attended a wedding recently and this hotel was selected by the wedding party as the place for guests to stay primarily because the reception was being held in one of their banquet halls. We have been to Louisville before for weddings and other group events and we never really questioned the choosing of the hotels because we have been satisfied with the accommodations at other hotels. However, this hotel was a disappointment in comparison to our other Louisville stays. The staff at this hotel was very pleasant and accommodating so there are no complaints there, rather the issues I had was with our room and the rooming situation for the wedding party. There were several rooms reserved for the wedding party and for family and guests. However, we all assumed that these rooms would be actually together…as in next to each other or on the same floor. This makes getting ready for a wedding really easy if everyone involved is all together. This was not the case however at the Crowne Plaza. For us, we were the ONLY couple on the FIRST floor. Groomsmen and bridesmaids were on all different floors and the same was apparently true for family members and so on. From a convenience standpoint, being on the first floor was nice…but because people were on all different floors our room became the “headquarters” room by default since it was the easiest room to get too. We had a groomsmen in our room and the others were on the 4th and 6th floors - very inconvenient. Family members were also scattered all over the place and no one really knew who was where. Also, some of the rooms for the groomsmen were supposed to have double beds, but they got single king beds instead and had to request rollaway beds.

There were also other issues with being on the first floor. One was the noise. You could hear EVERYTHING anyone in the whole hallway was saying or doing. It was like the front door to our room was paper thin. The foot traffic was very heavy as well because there were 2 receptions going on the night we stayed and also a girl’s soccer tournament…so there was a lot of running and laughing and carrying on in the hallway. You could also easily hear people running around on the floor above us. Another noise problem had to do with plumbing. Apparently, there had to be pipes of some type inside the wall right next to the bed that carried water from the upper floors because it would drain and make this loud water noise…that would go on for several minutes several times a night. In speaking of water, the tub drain in the bathroom would not drain properly.

Another issue I had was the room itself. Now, this hotel has been recently renovated and revamped. There was a huge bed with a fancy headboard that was very nice and the bed was quite comfortable. However, there were a lot of little things that I thought was weird. The first thing I noticed was the windows. The room had 3 TINY windows, with wood shutters. The windows could not be opened and it reminded me of like old style jail cell windows. The room was extremely dark, but if you were getting dressed, you had to keep the shutters closed because the view was right out onto the parking lot and the freeway. I arrived to the room in the middle of the day but it was like I was getting ready in a cave because even the bathroom had poor lighting.

Another problem I had was the weird double sink thing they had going on. There were two sinks in the room. The one that was on the outside of the bathroom was very tiny and it was crowded with a huge makeup mirror that you could plug in, there was an odd protruding shelf with a small coffeepot, and glass and paper mugs. There was no room to put anything and it was pretty useless…unless of course it could be used as a wet bar. BUT, there was no microwave, mini-fridge, or anything like that in the room, which really bummed us because we had leftover food we wanted to save but had to throw away. The light at the outside sink however was the best, so it was decent for doing makeup. I assume this was installed because if you take a shower in the bathroom, the exhaust fan does nothing and the room becomes a disgusting sauna complete with a foggy mirror. My final gripe about this stay was that this hotel had no complimentary breakfast, which for the cost of the rooms I would have thought a hotel like this would have had free cereal and coffee. There is a restaurant connected to the hotel which is probably why they do not have complimentary breakfast.

This hotel was NOT by far the worse hotel I have ever stayed at by any means. In fact, since it is so close to the airport it is rather nice for business travelers or just a place to stay while passing through on a trip. But for a wedding, I would not have personally picked this hotel. It is one thing to sleep in a hotel for a night and leave, but it is totally different when you have to prepare for a wedding over 2 ½ days in a hotel and not have things like microwaves, fridges, breakfast, etc. and then not have the rooms together let alone on the same floor. The rooms were also kind of pricy even with the group rate. In comparison, two years ago we stayed at the newer Hyatt Place and the situation was the same – a large wedding party staying for 3 nights. It was so nice at the Hyatt Place because the WHOLE wedding party was on the same floor, and many of us had adjoining rooms which made it so easy for getting ready. There was a little kitchen in each room as well so we brought our own food and snacks AND they had a huge free breakfast…and the overall cost was less expensive than the stay at the Crowne Plaza. If you are planning a wedding where a lot of the guests are from out of town and the wedding party is large, I would hands down chose the Hyatt Place over the Crowne Plaza.

I stayed at the Crowne Plaza Louisville for 2 nights. I had a corner and even though I faced the airport, it was quiet. The room was not quite as clean upon arrival as I would have liked (semi dried urine on toliet seat), it was nice. The bed was great. There is a nice indoor pool with lifeguard that I never got time to use. The conference rooms are super and the staff very good with meals for large groups. I really enjoyed my Crowne Plaza experiene and would recommend this hotel to anyone.

This hotel is huge! We upgraded to a suite - which I highly suggest if you have children - it doubled our room size and gave a place to hand out once the kids went to sleep. The pool was a huge hit with our family and was spacious enough to accomodate a large number of families. The rooms were generously sized. The beds were wonderfully comfortable. We were right accross the hall from the elevator which was a bit annoying hearing the bell everytime someone got in or out on our floor. The ice and soda machine were also right accross. The bedroom portion of our suite was clean however the living room section showed wear. The carpeting wasn't very clean and had patches that had been replaced. The dressers drawers were off track. The cleaning in-between our days was ok - furiture was moved and never placed back and there was still crud on the floor that wasn't vaccumed up. We didn't use the restaurant so I can't say anything about the food. The decor is beautiful just needs a bit of tidying up in the suites.

Room Tip: I would totally reccomend upgrading to a suite
