We stayed a couple of nights at the Gratz. It's not cheap, but it's a nice place. The rooms are comfortable, and the location is as close to perfect as possible--right in the middle of things. Many good restaurants are only minutes away on foot. Parking was also easy. No refrigerator in the room, just ice (though we managed to get a mini-fridge, I got the feeling there are not many to spare). The woman who checked us in was delightful and we chatted with her several times--she was without a doubt the most charming and lovely aspect of our stay. The clerk checking us out was not unfriendly, but seemed inconvenienced by having to do her job; she did not ask anything about our stay.
Overall it was good, if pricey, and you can't get closer to the center of things if you're in Lexington.

We have just returned from a 5 night stay at the Gratz Park Inn. The Gratz Park inn is located in a tranquil, serene setting in the Gratz Park area of Lexington. The hotel is located steps away from Transylvania University and the District and Circuit Court houses. The red brick main entrance/courtyard area is very nice neatly surrounded by a small gazebo, Smith and Hawken benches, and a life size Howard Miller clock. The private semi gated parking lot is very large and user friendly. Beware: The hotel doesn't offer valet parking, doorman or bell hop. It's a self-service discovery at its best, nonetheless we survived the arrival. The lobby/library is very clean and stately. The overall feel brings you back to the 19th century, evoking such historic charm and grace. The check-in process was very easy. The front desk seemed very nice. We escorted ourselves
to our room via the elevator. We opted for a king suite. Upon arriving at our room, walking down the squeaky floored hallway we noticed the wall lamp outside our room was removed and loose wires were protruding from the wall. The room was a smoking room although requested a non-smoking suite. The room didn't have a smoky odor so we didn't complain. The room was large but poorly designed. A large, unusually high out of place coffee table seemed to occupy most of the
entrance to the room.

The room was clean but certainly showed wear in various places. The bed was a 4 poster Temperpedic king. The room contained tolerable framed local style artwork and a wooden brass handled desk. The view was of an adjacent roof and the downtown off to the distance. The bathroom was ok except for the shower facilities. The shower/bath combo flooring was very slippery. Hold on tight! When I turned on the
faucet out came a rush of rust colored water for about 10 seconds. The shower was set up with a very loud water saving showerhead. I tried to adjust the showerhead to reduce the noise, but without much success. The water temperature seemed to fluctuate too. The room was very quite as was the entire hotel. An important feature if you're looking for a nice rest. The room doesn't have a refrigerator or safe. The TV doesn't offer movie channels either. The room didn't offer a hotel welcome book/guide for guest services. The only information available on the nightstand was information for dialing on the telephone. Beware: local calls are 65 cents/call. According to
the management room service is offered by the well known hotel restaurant named Jonathan at Gratz Park. Breakfast is available in the restaurant in the morning, although on one occasion we found out that the restaurant wasn't serving during one day of our stay. Oh
well. When we finally got a chance to eat at the restaurant, the pickings were slim to none. The so called buffet breakfast was lame and pathetic. We quickly scanned the empty dining room(except for one
table) for more, but walked out in search of real food.

The staff is very cold and sterile. The staff seemed to only speak to you when spoken. We felt very alone in this hotel. On the upside, we did ask the management for a restaurant recommendation and it was
"right on". Bellini's Italian about three blocks away is excellent.
The hotel does offer free WIFI service throughout and use of a computer/printer in the lobby.

The hotel seems to be always in need of maintenance. The carpet in our hallway was rippling and a chuck of the wall near the elevator was crumbling. It was a very pleasant sight.

FYI, the hotel seems to have a very upscale reputation amongst the locals. We beg to differ. I guess we shouldn't be surprised, because Lexington has a very poor selection of quality hotels. The city could
use better accommodations for visitors.

Wonderful historic hotel in downtown Lexington. You don't want to miss this place. Best customer service, the minute we walked in the door! The rooms were classic and decorated to perfectly. The charm and character was just ooozing out of every corner.

The location of the hotel is also perfect. You can walk to downtown bars and restaurants and enjoy the nightlife. It is a quick hop and a jump from the University of Kentucky too.

There isn't one bad thing I can say about the hotel. Even with renovations going off the lobby it was the perfect place to stay!

Spent a weekend there. Everything was very comfortable, though the queen room is a bit small. There are several good restaurants in easy walking distance.

Very old and pricey for what you get. Restaurant isn't affiliated w/ hotel so you have to deal w/them seperately if you want roomservice. They stop serving breakfast at 9:30 am. Several people in our group had issues with the hotel losing our reservations. No one at the hotel can recommend restaurants or other tourist attractions which obviously means they aren't properly trained. The rooms are old and outdated. We have a zenith tv in our room and were shocked to find it actually had a remote. One clue on their website to deter one from staying here was the bold quote "we offer cable tv". I was shocked they didn't brag about also offering air conditioning.
