I booked this hotel for a group of us to unload and relax after a day at the nearby horse track Keeneland (which I highly recommend you check out if you are in Lexington in the Spring or Fall - check their website for the dates). I was looking for a mid-priced hotel, but ended up at this premium hotel due to a nationally televised football game being played in the city that night. Overall, I am pleased but I do consider my room overpriced.

The room was not unlike a room you would find at any other hotel. I booked under a "Keeneland racing special" price which was probably higher than normal due to the weekend we were in town. The breakfast was very good, fresh coffee, sausage biscuits, oatmeal, fresh fruit, and an assortment of pastries. Room service was through one of the 3 resturants in the hotel and was also a little pricer for what you got.

The hotel is nicely decorated and the room was quiet, they do have a lounge in one of the restaurants that stays open until around 2am on the weekends, and they offer shuttles to the airport and keeneland.

I would probably not stay here again simply because I live nearby and would not mind spending half of what I did at the Griffin Gate for another mid-range hotel that offers the same amentities without the high price tag. But if you don't mind spending more this place is good.

My husband and I are Silver level Marriott Rewards members. We stayed at this hotel for a long weekend, and I was disappointed. I am glad that I booked a room with a balcony, because the other rooms at this hotel have none and are just standard rooms. The grounds and the pool area are nice, and there is plenty of parking for large vehicles, but with all the highways around, the facility felt cramped. We heard lots of interstate traffic noise from our balcony, though the room was quiet enough. I had to request robes for our room, because only the rooms on the concierge floor get robes. Ordered room service FOUR times and 3 times out of four the order was wrong -- missing butter that was specifically requested, milk, no salt and pepper. One day, their excuse was that the room service tray preparer had not shown up that day! After the first night, no cards were left in the room to fill out a breakfast order for the next day. No turn-down service occurred after we first checked in. For a supposedly 5-star Marriott property, I felt the service was extremely lacking. I will stay at the Residence Inn down the street next time.

I spent a week in this hotel on business and overall it was fine. The staff were competent and friendly. My room was fine although there was a slight musty smell that didn't dissipate for the entire week. The bar is ok, if a little impersonal. Breakfast was very good,
the buffet provided much better value than the menu options and there
was plenty of choice from a great selection of fresh fruit/cereals/
juices/etc to a full hot breakfast. I didn't eat in the restaurant but colleagues who did said the steaks were excellent. It is not within walking distance of anywhere, being a little out of town. The spa was good, again not amazing but fine. I had a massage and facial and enjoyed both. There are 2 swimming pools, both of which seemed pretty empty most of the time. The bathroom was very small but
adequate. The beds were VERY comfortable. I would return again if there on business but probably not for leisure.

I stayed for a conference and although the property itself is not exactly "resort" if you stay on one of the upper level rooms, you get a true sense of the history and charm of horse country. the concierge level suites feature old hardwoods, beautiful oil paintings, carved fireplace mantels and four-poster beds. However, there is still a flat screen TV and modern bathroom amenities.

I did not visit any restaurants but the bar was a nice atmosphere-more modern. I did have a breakfast served at the meeting which was great and really better than the typical conference breakfast. Also, room service featured items from their upscale restaurant and the flank steak salad was great!

I highly recommend taking a right out of the property and surveying the thoroughbred horse farms--amazing!! Get a tour if you can-you will be so impressed by the investments and the traditions of the stables.

I don't know that i would recommend this as a destination but if you need to be in the area, i think its a definite better choice.

  • Liked — The character & charm of the upper level rooms
  • Disliked — other rooms are typical stale air Marriott rooms.

There is an upcharge of $30 pp for concierge access, even if you are on concierge floor. Beyond that standard, non updated Marriott room. nothing special, no real problems, just not a good deal.

We stayed one night on our way to Pigeon Forge through a Priceline booking and all went well. The resort is attractive, the rooms and common areas spotless, and the on site dining is reasonably priced. I would definately recommend it to others.
